My Smart Puppy - 04-02-2007, 04:09 PM

I recent purchased This Book/DVD Combo and received it today. After leafing through the book and viewing the DVD, I think it will be a great resource when we finally get our puppy in June. Has anyone else used these methods before? Had success? Everything seems so matter-of-fact and simple, and it looks like the book is designed to be both a good cover-to-cover read and a handy reference.

Yes, I raised mine working with Brian's first book, Good Owner, Great Dogs. I still use it, reading the senior chapters now. You would probably get a copy at your library and see how you like it too.

I saw Brian do a seminar in Vancouver years ago. Absolutely fascinating.

I did not read that book.

But I will admit, when I got Tuck, my first dog, I followed the "text book directions" to potty training and basic behavioral stuff.

Worked great! I remember talking w/ people and hearing stories about how I couldn't handle a Corgi since I was single and worked full time. I tell people I just referred to the owner's manual!

I think the book I used was "House Training for Dummies". I kid you not!

And of course, Puppy Class and Obedience Class ASAP!

I'll second that. Find a good class and take your doggy, we went 10 yrs ago, we still use techniques and commands from the class.

I love books, too, but haven't seen that one (yet).
