Way to rough with other dog.

Sophie is really mean to Lucy my families 11 year old Cocker Spaniel. Just yesterday Sophie pulled on Lucy's ears just because I was petting her. Is there anyway this could be because Sophie isn't spayed yet or is the a behavioral issue? If its a behavioral issue how can I fix it?

Sophie needs to see you as the authority figure—as the one in control of all situations that transpire in your home. If Sophie respects you in this way she is far less likely to interrupt your one-on-one time with Lucy. In order to teach someone how to play this role, face-to-face instruction is required as it is impossible to accurately assess the level of instruction a person needs via an online forum. If you are currently taking Sophie to obedience training, please present this question to your instructor. If you are not taking Sophie to obedience training, I recommend enrolling your darling Sophie in a class as this will help you. I believe you mentioned volunteering at your local humane society some time back. They have excellent training programs there and at reasonable rates. Good luck.

Sophie will 'grow' out of this very common situation. In the meantime it is better to be subtle in applying affectiion to another dog when Sophie is close by. One subtle aspect is to pet them both at the same time. Also with food - feed apart and make sure that there is no 'danger' of any misunderstanding when dishing out treats. Taylor does not really like me petting other dogs either.

I will do both, just in case I have a behavioral problem.

I had the same problem with Nick. He eventually grew out of it but I had to set him straight a couple of times.

My two chipmunks chew on each others ears playing. If Dale gets to rough, chip corrects him and that is what Lucy probably will do too. I think sophie is still a puppy - how old is she now. I must have missed her age somewhere. Has she been spayed yet - that may calm her down a little too.

She hasn't been spayed yet, I am hoping to spay her next month. She is a little bit older the 6 months old.

The fact is that jealousy and selfishness is part of a dog's makeup to certain levels and degrees. Most dogs learn to control these emotions - because they love and/or respond to the wishes of their dads and mums and/or they love/like/accept their fellow dog companions/company. With the two Corgis who have stayed with Taylor for at least two weeks, both were put in their place at the onset by Taylor and after that Taylor accepted that they would get similar treatment from me and though he has never liked it, he has agreed not to go beyond a trickle of an occasional moan and instead 'compete' at times by muscling (as in moving) in.

When you say 'feel' it has two meanings. One is attitude and the other is the coat texture.
Pems and Cardis have remarkable similarities in attitudes which is not to say that they don't also have different attitudes to some things. But I believe that the sameness is also a pointer to them being 'cousins' ie related.
A Cardis coat is generally a little coarser and heavier

Both breeds also have similarities, traits, behaviors, attitudes in common with many of the other herding breeds, even those non-related.

This indicates jealously. Try to stroke Sophie before Lucy.

Also remember she's only 6 months. She'll learn how to behave eventually when she matures but if she pulls on Lucy's ears, don't give her the attention (that's just telling her that to get your attention she should just pull on Lucy's ears). Stop petting both dogs and ignore them. Once the barking/protesting has stopped (assuming that she barks for attention) then stroke Sophie, before Lucy.
