When do you all think it a good age to send a puppy to basic obedience class. We don't have a puppy class.

Oh Bonnie,

Thanks for bringing this thread up; it has been interesting for me to read back when Cody was only 6 to 7 months old and in puppy class; It's like my own personaly diary

I enrolled Jackie at 5 months Bonnie. That's the minimum age for our school.

Chip was a little over 6 months right after he healed from neutering. I am going to take Chip to class Monday night and let Dale go watch. We will see how that goes

As far as jumping, I am inconsistent in enforcing it. I love the jump up and smooch when I come home. So I really have to accept the responsibility.

As for dogs and their age to be considered puppies... I heard thatn that actually varies with breeds. SOmeone told me that Labs are considered puppies until they are almost 2 while other dogs stop being puppies at about a year.

Good question....

Our new puppy will be 11 1/2 wks old when we first take it to puppy school in April. They don't offer another class until fall so he's going to try it. I asked the trainers if he would be too young and they reassured me that he would most likely be perfect for the class.
