Red face Obedience Class for Chip - 07-12-2006, 05:58 PM

Well - I enrolled Chip in obedience class today. It is near Kingsport and starts on the 27th - once a week for 6 weeks. After that you can take them weekly for a nominal fee. I was wondering if they ask for vaccination record? She didn't mention and I didn't think to ask.

Ob Class with Chip, what fun!

Here they do ask for the records, I always have photo copies handy, just in case.

Congrats on enrolling Chip in classes. They are loads of fun! They didn't ask for health records at the place I took Dudley either, which I thought was very weird.

Chips mom,

In Cody's class, they did ask for the vaccination record. Best to just bring
a copy along

Where? Where?

You have my attention!

That would be fun! I am just hoping to get him not to want to play the chase game when he goes to the car! He doesn't go far, just worrisome. Last night instead of getting in the truck when we were going away, he laid down on the driveway, pretended to be sleeping but was watching me out of the corner of his eye to see if I was going to come towards him. When I spoke to him he ignored me but when I started towards him, he ran to the garage and stood by my car waiting for me to lift him in. What a guy and so much fun LOL I am glad we live way off the road.

Last night while sitting on my front porch, Cody and I were practicing some
of his pupppy training drills. I had the leash hooked onto my shoe and secure
(so I thought).

Here comes a lady with her border Collie(who I knew was very friendly) and
Cody saw him and off he went with leash dragging behind right into the road.
Would not listen when I called him - I need to work on that so much more

I bet you were scared to death! My husband bought a leash that has a loop with a clasp at one end and I clip it around my ankle for Chip. It works really good - got it at Petsmart for around $10. I always say Chip gets a "wild hair" every once in awhile. 99% of the time he is trustworthy and it's the 1% that gets me everytime. Glad he and you are ok.

I was scared and when we practice the "come command" in the house with
the treats he is very good about it, but with that dog as a distraction(and he
thinks all dogs are his friend), he could have care less what I thought.

We have trouble with the come command outside as well. Ace will come to us in the house provided we have a treat in hand. But when he is outside in the back yard he doesn't aways come. We've read you have to make the dog want to come to you because you are more exciting then what he is doing now. I guess Ace finds the grass more fun and exciting than us! I can jump up and down and call him excitedly but if he's chewing on some grass or a bean pod forget it. He doesn't care. Practically the only way we can get him to come is if we run away from him towards the house. He thinks we're playing chase and comes after us! We REALLY need to work on that!

What sometimes helps me get Jackie to come (other than the all-powerful treat, of course! ) is saying her name several times in a row, in a kind of high-pitched, singsong chant (jackiejackiejackiejackie). She finds that very intriguing.

ChipsMom - have fun at class. "School" is a magic word at our house . . . almost as powerful as "treat"! My school did ask for proof of vaccination also.
