Something we are working on in puppy classes is the "quarter Turn" and getting him to sit with each turn at my left side.
We are also now working on the "watch me", however, instead of having the dog sit in front of us to do that, they are to sit at either our left or right side and we are to take a step back so they are then looking somewhat back at us and "watching us" - a little bit hard because Cody naturally moves up in front of me to look straight at me - which the instructor said is common because we always greet our dogs that way, but with work he will be able to get it; Also a 2 minute sit stay and down stay with distractions - had a young girl who was at the class come around and clap her hands and make noises while they were in this position. Cody was more interested in the dog hair flying past him on the floor and the fly around his head. Also something we are working on is the "really Reliable Recall", this is not the simple "come command" but wants us to use a word of our choosing such as "Cody Here!!" or "Cody Now!!", for emergency purposes; such as if they run into the street, so that our dogs know we mean business; we are to reward them with what she calls "fine dining" and lots of praise. The "Fine dining" meaning many little treats dispensed quickly one after the other to let them know that their coming back to us was really great! and worth coming back for rather than just one small treat. We get a homework sheet each week Linda Last edited by corgimom; 07-18-2006 at 07:38 AM. |

We are in training for the CGC / TDI tests right now. . . working on greeting politely, walking past another dog without jumping on it (which Jackie finds especially challenging!
), and self control.

The trainer said there is the "come" command and then there is the "COME COMMAND", meaning pronto, serious business because you(the dog) could get in trouble or hurt. But she wants us to use a different word for that command.
Cody loves the "fine dining" reward. I would also, if it were chocolate! Linda |
