Then he is the one that I am thinking of. Not my training style.

I watched him last night on TV. He had a segment on Rotties that were jumping up and being way too agressive. I didn't get how he settled them down - I wish he would give more details on the jumping. My Georgia son's dobi was jumping up on us and when she does she is as tall as me. Not mean agressive but Georgia clay is hard to get out of clothes and NO ONE wants to be jumped on by that powerful a dog. Any sugestions? My daughter-in-law is at a loss how to stop it.

T-Gal,

I agree with the Rottie thing, I didn't think he "did enough" for the viewing audience in showing us how he solved the jumping. He did say that 8 months to 3 years old was the adolescence stage and that they would have to practice for a long time - watching those dogs made me thankful that Cody behaves as well as he does, although he needs work on some things, but not like those dogs on TV last night.

I can't believe that he used those scissors on that dog while he was behaving that way.

Did you all watch the silkies? I couldn't believe those little dogs. I thought they were a quiet breed. What did he do with the scissors? I couldn't get the video to play either.

Thumbs down *~* abuse..borderline anyway--in my opinion - 08-01-2006, 07:25 AM

*~* I got all the clips to play.

I DO NOT like the way that he dealt with that cute, white, fluffy &
FIESTY...little dog. Okay, so...that dog was fiesty, moving around way too much and was also growling & snarling. But, in the movie clip...the Dog Whisperer dude...used his FIST to push the dog's face aside !

To me...it looked AWFUL !

Then, he also used some pretty big scissors to trim the dog's fur around his face...as the dog is FLAILING AROUND, GROWLING & SNARLING !!

Ya think...he would've at least gotten the pooch to trust him FIRST or at least calmed the dog down before going at him with scissors !!!

>>> SHEESH <<< !!!

** In my opinion....WE all know more that that guy ! Holy cow...where is the paitence...compassion & empathy ? I felt sorry for that dog !

and

where is the whispering ?? (kidding...)
That guy wasn't even talking to that doggie ! I did not even hear ONE WORD spoken to the dog...by that freaky guy !

( I will not watch that show...no way ! )

He just started to trim the dogs hair while the dog was snapping, growling
and lunging at him - to me it was dangerous because I thought he could have
poked that dog in the eye; however, someone had to get in charge of this
dog and I think at this point, kind words were not going to do the trick.
Just think how much fun it must be for the vet to have to handle that white dog!

I honestly cannot imagine having a dog like that around the house.

I think by the time these people contact this guy, they are at wits end with their animals and in some cases, the animals will not be in the home much longer because of their behavior and these people fear that the dogs will bite someone, and the owners are not enjoying living with them. In some cases, the people have said that they have basically tried just about anything, some even mentioning that they have had 2 or even 4 previous trainers who could not help them.

I watched the show tonight and I really was amazed at how he got these truely aggressive mean dogs to change and he never hit them, but, yes, with some muscle, got them to go into submissive positions; to let them know that he was boss, just as the owner was going to have to do in order to train these dogs to not be dangerous.

I am not sure what other methods would work with these dogs - some of them seemed half crazy. I think we are very lucky that we have the dogs that we do; but imagine having one of those that practically snaps your spouses hand off when they just want to pet them.

Honestly, if I had a dog like the ones they showed on TV last night where
the dog destroyed the entire sofa and where the one was so aggressive that they were thinking of having him "put down", I would welcome this
guy helping me out.

Linda
