Thanks for adding a bit of common sense to any misconceptions. I think Go Corgi members should take things at face value and just enjoy the 'club' for what it is - and the benefits it brings to them - not for what it isn't. We are all volunteers here and if there is any site financial gain from advertising, then the owner is welcome to it, and may he eventually prosper from it.

Michael or Stephen #2

I really wanted to respond to a thread that I started, but for some reason, I am not being allowed. Sorry to have to start another one, but I do have the right ot respond. First, I did not need any explanation, but thanks Stephen/Michael, but maybe you should have spent the time checking out the complaint, nobody even contacted me to find out what the problem is, so how do you know what it is? As for the posts in the previous Michael or Stephen thread, Glencorgi is more correct than either of you. As for imagination, yes, I have an abundance, it comes with the job, but it also protects me by making me always question, and I DID have THREE spyware attachments from this site over a week ago, As for enjoying this site, that's whay I am here, and for the most part, why everyone else is, and I want everyone to continue using it, just do so wisely and have a great security system. As for the "regulars", we already know to watch our back and who to trust. Again, sorry to take up another thread, members, forgive me, but I did it for YOUR best interests.

Stick a fork in me, I'm done.

I for one do not have a problem with advertisements that would help ensure this site keeps going - and I appreciate that your goal would be to keep them unobtrusive Stephen.

I have a pretty good firewall and spyware setup and haven't had any issues with this site myself.

I do not have a problem with my computer either. I just ran my spyware and my computer is clean. I for one do not understand what exactly is going on here. As I do not know Stephen personally, I cannot vouch for his character. However, I am going to take his word that his post is truthful and I will continue to participate on this site. However, I would like clarification from Stephen that our private messages are just that private and that no moderator can view these messages. In the best interest for Go Corgi, I also request from Stephen that he appoint a second moderator to supervise this forum. That would build more trust and make all of us more comfortable. I don't think this is an unreasonable request and I believe it will help Go Corgi to succeed.

Bonnie,
I will second that idea of having more than one moderator- I have been quiet on this thread eventhough i have been having concerns.. I will be interested to see the response regarding private messages as well, seeing as they are supposedly PRIVATE..

I am not being allowed to post in the other thread, and really don't appreciate that, and that in itself looks suspicious, but here goes, I totally agree for the need of another moderator, a couple even, one could be available at ALL times. Stephen, also, maybe you could particpate time to time, we would love to get to know you and your dogs, we only get the chance every now and then when you upload a photo. You said that you created this site to help you raise your dog, yet you've never really participated. This site will not run by itself, get involved, we would welcome you.

I've never heard of a forum allowing even the admin to read peoples' private messages... No forum I've ever run had a feature like that... it seems like it would defeat the purpose of them being private.

I agree with Bonnie and Emilie - I do not feel that our "private" emails are just that and would like to think two moderators should be the norm. I've only been on for a few months, do we shut down when Michael goes on vacation? And I believe it's been asked in the past by a "regular" - who moderates the moderator, or clarifies what the moderator is saying when it is perceived that they are being unfair?

I moved the thread to a more appropriate forum. Maybe that is why you had trouble replying to your thread.

That is correct. And I agree. PMs are private. However, if you still are uneasy, then I suggest just using your email.

I do think you needed an explanation because you would have never created this thread if you understood how websites worked. I had to give you yet another explanation as to why you "cannot repond to your thread". We don't even have that feature or power as moderators.

How do you know that the spyware came from this site? And what kind of spyware are we talking about? Cookies, virus, etc.? I am confused as to why you think that this site needs to hijack your computer with spyware. How would it benefit anyone?

The bottomline is that everything you were worrying about is false. This site does not make any revenue nor does it infect your computer with spyware/virus. I am curious as to what else you have to say.

I for one have never gotten any spyware from this site, and think that some people are being a little paranoid. We are discussing corgi's here not nuclear fission or anything world changing. And Stephen if you need to sell ads to keep the site going so I don't have to pay for it go ahead sell all you want. If somebody does not like me Like the explanation Glencorgi gave and wants to copy any of my posts into another forum and then make fun of me, again go ahead. This is internet POSTING on a FORUM about CORGI'S I think that some people take this site a little bit too seriously.

From the technical aspects - like spyware, virus attachments, etc. perhaps, but as far as attention seeking trolls - there's a fair share of those popping up on a regular basis. Evidence needed? One such piece is an individual who seems to be a regular on another forum and is apparently a female there. Here, they're male???? Same dog/same name. Now in all fairness, it may be someone confused about their sexual identity, I don't know. What I do know is lifting pictures off of websites without express permission of the owner is copyright infringement and there are people who will nail someone's arse to the wall for it.

The troll issue, that is really just an unfortunate piece of baggage that comes with forums set up the way GoCorgi is. I may not know all the technical stuff, but I do know the nature of lists/forums and what certain formats are more prone to attract than others. The hope in dealing with trolls is that a lurker on the forum might find an answer to a problem they are having or someone else might learn something. In that the goal of education and promotion of responsible ownership succeeds, a little more important <IMHO> than the promotion, pimping and prostitution of the breed(s).

As for an additional moderator or even maybe more than one; given the pace of the rapid growth of GoCorgi, it might be time to give that more thought. As Michael mentioned, everyone here is a "volunteer" and distributing the "work load" helps prevent burn out.

Adkmehrman- while we might not be talking about earth shattering topics here, some of us do reveal a bit more about ourselves than others. For some people we are on here a lot more than others and so i guess to those of us who are on daily and posting every single day about our lives and our pups and ourselves it matters a bit more to us. I do enjoy coming here, sharing information, talking corgis and making friends but i really do NOT like to feel vulnerable. So maybe people are being paranoid here and maybe not...
