Suggestion - 05-02-2007, 08:40 AM

Stephen--

Great work on this site!

One suggestion I have would be to expand the "Shows & Activities" top forum. Currently, the "Corgi Events" sub-forum which is described as "Upcoming corgi events. Corgi picnics, walks, etc." and "Other Activities" described as "Picnics, meetings, etc." seem to be redundant. In addition, "Showing" and "Obedience and Agility" are not the only competitive activities in which Corgis participate. More Corgis are having real success in herding competitions all the time. In the past couple years several PWCs have received Championships in AKC, AHBA, and ASCA herding programs. In addition, there are now several Dual Champion Pems who qualified for their DC with a herding Championship. Beside herding, Corgis are naturals at tracking. Many Corgis of both types have earned tracking titles at all levels. In addition to these competitive activities, there are many Corgis who make peoples lives more pleasant as Service Dogs and Therapy Dogs. These are just a few things I can think of off the top of my head; I'm sure other folks can suggest additions. Please consider expanding the sub-forums in "Shows and Activities" to include other things these great little dogs do.

I don't think the social events is redundant. We have only started to use it to effect over the past few weeks.
Conformation showing, obedience and agility are the 'big three' of dog sports but of course anything else that is also a dog sport is applicable here in this sub topic slot without having to spell it out. There are 20-odd dog sports. I suppose I should know because I did an article a year or so ago on regular dog activities world wide. So in summary, herding, tracking, trialling, etc are all fully part of Shows and Activities.

Please allow me to respectfully disagree.

First let me say, I can see now I was mistaken when I supposed the "Corgi Events" and "Other Activities" sub-forums were redundant. I apologize for missing "upcoming" in the description under "Corgi Events". Perhaps the possibility of others being similarly confused could be eliminated by moving the word "upcoming" from the description to the title of the sub-forum, thus rendering it "Upcoming Corgi Events". Just out of curiosity, who is going to be responsible for removing announcements there once the events are past?

That said, I still do not believe the proper place for herding, tracking, flyball, free style, and other "lesser sports" is to be lumped with picnics, walks and other purely social events. I'm sorry, but many folks devote a lot of time training their dogs for these activities, and I believe it's demeaning to relegate them to the same grouping as Sunday in the Park with Corgis. I don't think we need to see separate sub-forums for each, simply one for serious activities other than the "big three" and another for social events involving Corgis.

Finally, just as a note I would remind you that while herding may not be considered a major sport in the overall dog world, these forums are dedicated to discussion of two herding breeds.

No one said that any sport is 'lesser' only that the three main sports on an international basis - and we are an international site - are shows, obedience and agility. All other dog sports are legitimate to be placed alongside Obedience and Agility. I'll get Stephen to alter the title of this forum to say Obedience, Agility etc.
If it is a Corgi event that involves a meeting of any sort including any sport, then that belongs also in Upcoming Events.
We don't want herding, dancing etc people think they are been left out of the scheme of things.

That sounds great. That way label oriented folks like me will know where to look for threads on flyball or where to post threads on herding.

Bonnie - I quite agree. I think Stephen is on one of his holidays at present.
