Evaluating Go Corgi - 11-11-2005, 12:14 AM

GoCorgis has been dormant for several days. Having said that, it probably will now pick up. But seriously, it's been very heavy going and less than a success. A great part of the problem is that almost all the very few members you have , have either nothing to say or nothing to say to draw in a conversation whereas GoCorgis is designed to be self perpetuating. The silence is deafening.
An example of this lack of rapport is my piece on weaving. I've got such a lot of things to follow up on my initial "story" but no one is responding out there except for one solitary person whose reply failed to spark anything ongoing.

The corgi community has many discussion boards/lists most, of which are moderated. They have been in existence for years and are very active. Obviously people do not wish to abandon those forums and post here instead. I suggest you join the performance corgi list if you want to discuss agility with people who share your interest.

Have you considered that the list owner has never come forward to identify him/herself?

Have you considered that people could possibly be boycotting this list because it is not moderated?

The welcome message states the reason for this baord’s existence is “for anyone wanting to know more about Pembroke and Cardigan Welsh Corgis”. If the purpose really is education, this forum falls short. So far it has generated only a few questions, some photos and your brags.

I’m not surprised by the silence.

I know what you mean. One of the biggest hurdles when starting a message board is just getting the discussions rolling. This site just needs exposure. People just need to know it exists. Then, I'm confident that this site will pick up.

Who said this board isn't moderated? I don't think you are familiar with this board's software so let me tell you about it. This board's software (vbulletin) is the #1 rated message board software available. The biggest boards on the internet all use vbulletin and these boards have over 40 million posts and over 100,000 members! And these boards are all moderated. Vbulletin has such great moderation features that moderating big boards are a cinch. So moderating a little corgi board is even easier. To sum it all up, yes this board is moderated.

An advantage of this board's software as opposed to the currently available corgi boards/lists is that the posts and discussions remain on the board. So say a corgi owner wants to know how to get his pups ear to stand. All he would have to do is click Search and type in that query. He will then be presented with a list of all the discussions and posts (if that subject has been discussed before) that have discussed that query. He won't have to make a brand new thread on that subject then wait for a response. It will all be there in an instant. Therefore, this board has a potential to be a great reference.

One more thing. We never asked or said to "abandon" other sites or lists. This site was created for the benefit of the corgi community not to steal members from other sites or things of that nature. I don't know where all this negativity is coming from. It's really unnecessary.

There is this CORGI person at it again. You have never identified yourself and yet you criticise the List Owner for the same sin.
Please come clean and tell us who you represent. All you tend to do is snipe away. You may very well be the one who is bragging beyond what is reasonable by virtue of sitting on your high horse and turning your nose up at the GoCorgi site and what it is trying to legitimately achieve.
In my limited experience with your run-of the-mill discussion boards I have found them repetitive beyond redemption - this I note is something GoCorgis can eliminate through its services - and there is no or little monitoring so that anything including porn site advertising remains indefinitely.

Michael Romanos, I'm thankful for your open-mindedness.

As for the site, I have started an ad compaign with google. Hopefully, this will draw in more corgi owners to the site.

I see that GoCorgi is less than a year old, but I do notice that of the over 400 members, there are only 35 that have written more than 10 posts, and that there are well over 200 that have joined and not posted at all.

Anyone have any ideas as how to make make our Corgi friends feel more like sharing?

I think we should be more respectful to people that come in to visit or have a look around. I just read all of the posts for this thread and it seems to be argumentative and provoking as do some other comments that have come across since I have been on GoCorgi. For example, one person joined, left a post and the title of her post was changed. She has not posted since that I am aware of. I know there will be discussions that can get heated, but it is sad when we can't post our concerns about certain topics without being verbally attacked.

Well I for one would like to get to know Stephen, our Administrator and board "owner" better. Things like - how did he get interested in corgis and how he's been involved with them. What prompted him to start GoCorgi for us and things like that. It's almost like he's the Great and Powerful OZ behind the curtain sometimes.

I'm not sure how these Forums are supposed to work, I think they are what they are. If you want to get involved in the discussion, you will, if not you'll just look. I think it's very slow right now as up here in the Northern hemisphere it's summer vacation time - specially this last week - 4th of July - Yanks, and Canada Day- Canucks.
I know a couple of the groups we're in on Dogster just get too silly for me, but they are busy - I think GoCorgi is a good thing.

I enjoy being a moderator on Goodpaws, which is an all around pet board, but I really enjoy being able to learn and share here, because of the breed of choice of course.

I've found that the more I've learned about our breed the easier it is for me to understand how to care for them. That includes their physical and mental makeup.

Yes, I too would like to know more about Stephen - he seems like he is this
mysterious person we know nothing about. He must have an interest in Corgis or he wouldn't have started this.

So Stephen, do you own any corgis? and if so, please post a picture for us, we would love to feel like you are more a part of this Corgi family. What motivated you to start this site?

Stephen setting up Go Corgi (and keep it going with his own $) for us to enjoy is like a gift from a stranger.

Or being invited to a party, the front door is open, all the snacks and beverages are here, but no one is home.

I'd love to see his corgi(s) too.
