Corgis in Canada
Go Corgi is approaching 360 members but not one is resident in Canada. I find that a bit strange because there are a large contingent of Corgis in Canada and Canadians have a lot of thngs in common with Yanks. So if you know a Canadian with a Corgi - encourage them to join our group. There are quite a few Canadian Corgis on Dogster - so here is another source that can be used to gather in members.

Welcome Jespah, Rupe and Riley. You must post some pics so we can see just how gorgeous Canadian-raised Corgis are. My Taylor's dad is a Canadian conformation show champion - he earned this title on his way to his new owner in New Zealand from his birthplace in the USA. His pet name is Clinton an he is one of the most beautiful Pems I have ever seen.
I believe you and your Corgis live in an upstairs apartment - so you have got to tell us how you cope with this - is it a hurdle and how have you gotten around any barriers. |

Thanks for the welcome- Taylor is indeed a handsome little fellow and clearly has some very good lines!
Yes, we are upstairs apartment dwellers - three flights, the dogs do it at least 4 times a day. So far, other than a couple of times when one or the other has had a minor injury, I haven't really had any problems. My neighbours enjoy being herded up and down the stairs! The only real issue was when each of the dogs were pups. As most people know, Corgis, and most dwarf dog breeds are built differently than full size dogs. In order to ensure that their bone developed properly, I had to carry them up and down the stairs for the first three months of their lives. Thankfully I got them a year and a half apart. Now, if they have an injury it's brutal as they are both of the new uber Corgi standard and weigh in at 40 and 42 pounds! I pretty much have a cardiac episode by the time I get to the top! I know for both them and me we'll have to move to a building with an elevator or have a small house on one level somewhere in the future. For now, it keep us all in shape! |

Jespah- You shouldn't have mentioned Riley's and Rupert's weights. Taylor would be considered overweight if he was 35 pounds. And he is a big Pem lengthwise. So your 40 pound babies/waterlos need to shed some poundage I suspect. Carrying two Corgis at a time up three flights of stairs would be good training for you for the next Summer Olympics. Running dogs up three flights of stairs several times a day is good agility training all round.

Although the evil twins sound huge, the vets don't consider them overweight for their size - they carry a lot of muscle. Rupe is a good weight when he's 39-40 and Riley is good about 37-38. They've started their summer swimming program so they'll slim down some soon.

Yes. things like losing weight and added exercise can be a seasonal thing. It's winter here now but over the last three days the weather has been beautiful and I have made the most of it for the Corgis - Taylor and the puppy I presently looki after - Taffy. I've given Taffy - who was a little too weighty when he first arrived at my place - a real good runaround. Today we went on a two hour walk along a local river trail and of course both dogs were off lead. Taffy is hyper so even at aged seven months he can keep up - if not ahead - with Taylor. But later I took Taylor out again to pick up my son from school and walk him to music practice, but I left Taffy in his crate. Must go now and take Taf for his pre-dinner toilet walk.
