Corgi speak - 09-02-2006, 07:40 AM

My Max is now a year or so old. What i find amusing, confusing & sometimes bewildering is his language. Max is a very talkative guy - he makes noises and sounds you cannot believe. From that very vocal early morning yawn to the nightime hug. What I find perplexing are growls when there should be "purrs" and vice versa. Anyone else get confusing signals?

Cody makes lots of different noises, from the early morning yawns to Aroooo's
(he did a long one yesteday coming down the stairs) and my husband asked if that was ME and also many other noises which sound funny and are quite amusing. I love the way Corgis talk to us.

Yes, you are so right. Corgi speak is great. Tom - my Jack russell - is the quiet type.

** My neighbor behing me has Bulldogs (male & female) and they just had PUPPIES !

They chirp !

Serioously...I went over to "visit" and help clean the pen. The puppies makes a, "urp...urp.." noise. One little cutie girlie has the cutest coloring ! they will ALL be gorgeous..but, this girl is just way cute !

" A Pembroke Corgi" : "When we are born...our ears are down...our tails are docked & we wear no frown. As we mature...the ears come up...our personality develops...no more a pup. When we chew our bone...the legs come out...and the "Flying Squirrel" lies alone. A corgi is a wonderful breed...much LOVE from owner to Canine...is received."

Nikki:

Is that little bulldog puppy tempting you? They sound real cute. Chip does the aroo roo and barks at me when I leave just to let me know that he isn't happy and wants to go too.

lexy does the arrr rooo bark too but to me its a yawn because she only does it when i wake her up to go potty in the morning. She also does the shrill bark, woofs (which i love!), play growls at her toys and she whines and whimpers when she plays with one specific toy (a rubber squeaker shoe). Shes very vocal too

Ace does this "protective" bark when he hears something or sees someone (like when we're in the car). It is my favorite! He sounds atleast 20 lbs. bigger. Wuwh, wuwh - low and powerful. It is hillarious! He also still has a puppy bark that he uses when he wants to play - high pitched and loud! Then there's the cute little sound that comes out of him when he yawns! Love it!!

I have never heard Abby arrrooo or yawn. She wakes me at 5am with front paws on the bed and a very deep 'gruff' which then gets progressively louder, then sharp single barks if I dont get up.

Same as Ace - she still has the very loud shrill play bark, and also the deep protective bark which certainly sounds like a much larger dog.

On occasions, especially at night, if she is unable to perceive just what may be threatening us, she has an exceedingly menacing continual low pitched warning growl.

I have never heard an "arrroooo" out of Chloe either...She has LOTS of other barks and yips, however. My favorite is when she looks directly at me and tilts her head and says"ahhh roof" - as if she is telling me something VERY specific and meanful and I OUGHT to understand - IMMEDIATELY!!!

I had posted earlier in this thread, but Cody always does his "Arooooooo" in the morning when he sees my husband coming down the stairs. Yesterday I took him with me to pick up my dauther from school and when he saw her coming to the car he did his "Aroooooo" also - that must be his "hello" to us.

He does the funniest noise when we massage his ears. He sounds like he is in doggie heaven - If I can catch this and record it on my digital camera I will post it. It is way too funny.

Trevor usually lets out a big yawn in the morning when he first comes out of his crate - generally followed by a big stretch and then plopping down into the "flying squirrel" position (like me, he is slow to awaken )

He also likes to sigh and "hmpf" at us when he feels we are doing something annoying . Oh, and then there is his squeaky ball that he'll bring into the living room and start going to town on - his way of saying "look at me, look at me!!"

I have never heard an "arooo" from him, although our old Husky used to do it ALL the time. I think I would fall on the floor laughing if Trevor let out one of those!!

Oh yes, I had forgotten about the "Hmpf". Cody does that also and will plop himself down on the floor sometimes when I ask him to do something and he doesn't feel like it It's almost like he is saying "what do you want, get on with the important stuff"
