Hey Corgsters,

I am ready for a new pup! :wiggle: I have a male Pem named Ollie who is the love of my life and fully trained/well behaved and very well socialized... he loves other dogs/pups/cats/kids/adults -- you name it! :paw: So I'm ready to potty train all over again! :) I just love corgis :)

This time, I'd really like to find a blue merle cardi with a lot of white, esp on the face... I will not be showing but may be interested in agility and Ollie will soon be attending a sheep herding class so I'd love to get our new addition in on that.

Know of any breeders within a weekend's drive of Los Angeles? I got Ollie from a wonderful breeder who only does Pems so I would love any advice/insight! I'm not in a big hurry but would like to start the search! :lay:

Thanks!
Ollie & his mama

We've been avoiding the Texas summer heat by hanging out in Colorado for the last few weeks. We were at 5-6,000' for a couple of weeks (on the 'Front Range' or Eastern side of the Rockies) and everything was fine and normal. Then we headed West and stayed for a few days at 11 Mile State Park at 9,000' of elevation.

Sassy was fine when we first arrived at the park, then all of a sudden (a couple of hours later) she became extremely lethargic, wouldn't eat (that was a major clue something was wrong!!) and at 3 AM she vomited in her crate.

We were pretty frantic as you might imagine. We called a nearby vet the next morning (we're way out in the country with very limited choices) who said he would call back later since he had to make some horse house calls (he never did call back.)

We knew humans could get altitude sickness and I started to suspect Sassy had altitude sickness. I did some Internet research and sure enough, she exhibited all of the classic symptoms. She slowly returned to normal behavior - it took about three days before we thought she was back to her old hungry self :wiggle:

Since then, we have taken Sassy with us when we went 4-wheeling in the San Juan Mountains and she did just fine at over 12,000' of elevation - in fact she loved getting out and playing in the streams when we stopped for a break.

Now I'm wondering what will happen with Sassy when we return home back to our usual 2200' of elevation for a few months and then go back up in altitude (we are planning on returning next summer.) Maybe she won't get sick again, or maybe we have to go through this cycle again. There is a drug available that some vets use (I think it helps oxygenates the blood or something like that) off-label, so we should probably discuss it before we head to altitude again.

Well, I could not stop myself, I had to have a look at Charlie's "before" and "after" photos you posted on another forum, and they had me immediately blubbering onto my keyboard. First, tears of outrage and despair ... and then tears of joy.

Bless you, Debbie, these photos show clearly what selfless and amazing things you (and all the Rescue Folks) do out of love for our helpless furry friends. The photos really hit me to the very core of my heart.

I immediately went to the CorgiAid site and made a donation and will also make a call tomorrow to our area Corgi Rescue to be of assistance in any way that I can.

Ideally I would like to find a half bench cover but I'm not having any luck. In my current car I just drop a towel over one side and put the arm rest down to keep him in one seat. If anyone has any experience with car seat covers I would be inteested to hear about it. Thanks!

I've just spent a little over $1,200 in the past 4 weeks trying to get to the root of Oliver's insanely high calcium levels. His numbers as of yesterday are back in the normal range. I switched his food to the canned version of the above kibble (with no calcium listed) after he was hospitalized for 48 hours to get fluids...and he got better. Not a coincedence.

I'm going to be contacting the company shortly. I just want them to pay the bills...

Hello All,

I've spent some time searching through the archives and have not been able to find any answers so I thought I post here looking for some help.

Our almost 3 year old Welsh Pembroke has always had sensitive skin. He would get hot spots a lot but they always reacted well to topical antihistamine sprays.

Recently, the number of "hot spots" increased. They became bigger and some led to loss of fur. They are mostly dry and the color ranges from red to a dark brown. We just noticed that there seems to be a slight order coming from his skin as well.

Today was his 3rd trip to the vet on this issue and they have no idea what the problem is. He has had a full course of antibiotics and today an injection of Ivomec. They are also doing blood tests. One thing the vet said is his skin is "too pink."

There are no visible signs of scabies, fleas or tics. We have only been using vet recommended ultra gentle shampoos for months. His mood, energy, appetite and bowels all seem good. We have been feeding him the same food since he graduated to adult food, Eukanuba Adult Maint. Small Bite.

The only change to his diet was the integration of 1/2 cup of no salt added canned green beans along with his kibble about 3 months ago. I can't imagine this could be the issue, but stranger things have happened.

Any thoughts, ideas or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Pic of Jasper included for eye candy :tired:

Thanks!

Joe

We just rescued a corgi from a kill shelter near our area. She is about 9 months or so. She was covered with ticks and had kennel cough. She is on antibiotics for both. We have spent alot money to get her the medical attention and shots she needs. When we saw her we noticed she limps, her left front leg is weak. The shelter said she had a small cut on her paw but we have seen no evidence of that and neither did our vet. We took her anyways because that was a bad place for such a cute dog.

Anyways, she tested neg for lyme, but we did the meds for it anyways. I have read many post about leg problems. I think it maybe an old injury, she was abandoned. I am hoping maybe the ticks caused the problem and the meds will help.

My question is... When I mess with her leg there is no pain for her. She doesn't whine, flinch or anything. As the day progresses she limps more but yet there is no pain. It simply makes no sense.
Is it possible for the dog to have developed a habit from an old injury and she hasn't built up muscles in that leg? It's almost as if it is numb and gets weak as the day goes on. Any ideas as to why she wouldn't have pain?

She is a precious dog and we have really taken to her. Only had her a week.
Thanks

Hi, my name is Angela. I was somewhat recently married in November and things have been a bit chaotic since then. If you look at my profile, you may notice that I had actually joined a long time ago but haven't actually been here. I wasn't sure if I could really talk before I got a corgi myself and not just being with my mother's dachshund/corgi mix. After marriage, my husband graduated from the University of Minnesota with a masters in chemistry, emphasis on water environmental chemistry. He had gotten a job that allowed me to quit my job at Kohl's -I was only able to make $6000 a year, so it was not as though I was bringing in much- to pursue my art. (I graduated with a BFA from University of Wisconsin Stevens Point.) He had that job for 5 mos before he was laid off. Today he is on an interview for his dream job and I truly hope he gets it. If he does, we will get to live where we want and be able to finally get our very own corgi! Expect to hear more from me if we do!

My husband and I just got our first corgi 2 weeks ago and she is soo adorable! Her name is Puka, as in the puka shell and we love her to pieces. I was just wondering if it was normal for her to have runny eyes. Like they tear up I guess. Right under the eye like it appears to be wet. The liquid isn't a weird color, its clear. Im just worried I guess, that she might be sick. Even though she's been to the vets twice already, seen by both of the vets there, and they both said that shes in good health. So I don't know what it is.

Sorry Im new, if you couldn't tell, so if Im repeating a previous post sorry. If anyone knows anything please let me know, me and my husband would really appreciate it. Thanks!

She jumped into the car and missed on Sat. morning but she seemed OK til Sunday night when I noticed she was noticable limping. Today, Monday, she woke up and was limping badly. I just got back from the vet who examined her and said her left shoulder is "luxating". He got it back in and gave me some anti inflamation med to take and I should call him in a few days. He said it is important to keep her on only 1 level for at least 1 wk. No stairs.

I hope the shoulder stays in. Anyone have any experiences with this sort of injury and what to expect. Ruby is 9 and does have a history of limping, although not this bad, and she has not limped for over a yr.

ive only had riley (18 weeks old) for a week now. in that time he has peed in my house ... 7 - 9 times and pooped 2 times. which, isnt really all THAT bad but obviously 0 times is better.

the problem is, i feel like he has to go out more often than he should? keep in mind i have never been the main care giver of a dog so young so perhaps im skewed but let me know what you think.

he has to go out basically every hour (he has made it closer to 2 or 2.5 a few times), or twice an hour when he eats or drinks. SOMETIMES he will go to the door and sometimes he will just "go" and ill find it a minute later. he will make it through the whole night NO problem. he sleeps in a crate, which i dont think he particularly likes to be in (i have to put him in) but he doesnt bark or howl or anything like that.

i dont know whats up. he made it like 2 days with no accidents and today he had 2 or 3 and i was in the same room. its like if i cant constantly stare him down he will pee somewhere. i believe dogs dont seek revenge or anything like that, but maybe he is mad because of the vet visit still. heh.

so do YOU think a 4 and a half month old pup should have to go ever hour still or what? he is a bit smaller than most pups at his age so maybe he just isnt as developed yet. i believe i read that you should be able to add an hour on to the month age of your pup and thats about how long he should be able to hold it so.. he should be able to hold it for like 5 hours but im lucky if i get 2 hours. the only way he wont go is if he is sleeping or in his crate basically, and i dont want to have to crate him constantly while i do whatever else i need to do.

as always, thank you very much for reading and helping out.

for those curious, i never punish the dog for going in the house or acknowledge the "accident". i just take him out, let him go outside, then praise him for going in the right spot. i think i heard or read this is the best route to go so your dog doesnt get confused. if this is the wrong thing to do, let me know!

Izi is usually pretty quiet and reserves barking for trapped toys under the couch or noises she hears outside. Recently, though, she has taken to barking loudly while I am on the phone. It's really frustrating because her bark is so loud that it makes it impossible for me to hear the other person and for the person to hear me.

I've tried my usual means of correction- the "ehhhh" noise. This stops 99.9% of any other misbehavior, but doesn't phase her. She seems to think about it for a minute and then just continue barking. The other correction means that I use is removing her from the pack, i.e. me, and I do that using her crate or by walking into another room and closing the door. Either way she continues to bark until she hears me end the conversation. Again, her bark is so loud that even going into another room does not resolve the situation.

So I was wondering if anyone had any other correction ideas or suggestions. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks!
