Lip smacking good? -
11-01-2006, 02:03 AM
Just lately (for the last week or so), Taylor has taken to smacking his lips a number of times immediately following his dinner. Now it is a wonderful gesture or exercise if it is a sign that he's enjoyed his meal so much that it has been 'finger lickin' and lip smackin' scrummy. But does it actually mean something quite different and less flamboyant. Does anyone else have a Corgi who offers a regular barrage of lip smacking following a meal. Maybe I should relay what triggers Taylor to doing this ie what's in his meal. It is actually quite amusing.

I mentioned in a previous post that Miss Gambler will start licking/smacking her lips when she sees food, or believes that she is about to get something to eat. I chalk it up to anticipation, and if something is exceptionally good, exceptionally flavorful, she will go on and on after she's finished. It is always our judge of just how much she enjoyed it. It is quite funny, and heartwarming, to see them take pleasure from something so simple.

Cody will start licking/smacking his lips in anticipation of his meal coming also, but I can't recall if he does it much after he consumes his meal. (but my cats do) Michael, you must be cooking up some good food for Taylor.

Dylan does a lot of lip smaking, in fact they both do, if they have just eaten one of their favourites, poached chicken breast.
Or boiled hamburger, or salmon, or tuna, or or yogurt, or pureed fruit.

Corgis live to eat. I think it's there way of saying "yummy" or that it was a good meal.

Jackie smacks & licks her lips after eating also. I figured she was just trying to get every last crumb that might be stuck to her lips or whickers . . . piggie!

Joni doesn't do any lip smacking. She usually just lets out a big burp!

Mine lick their lips after they eat, too. I'm with Jessica - I think they are trying to get all the microscopic bits off their mouths.
And turkeylegs, my little girl - Andy - usually lets out a pretty big "brrrrrp", too. Those girls...he he. No seriously, Rhys is so much more delicate about his bodily noises, his drinking, etc. But not Andy. Are Corgi girls less, um, restrained?

Isn't this a great thread? Our Corgis have such unique and special habits that we should take more time to notice, and this thread makes me appreciate the fact that Miss Gambler does get enjoyment out of life, and shows it, if I just take the time to watch. I am grateful that I get to spend so much time with her to notice these quirks. On days when I run errands, go shopping, or out with my husband, she happily lets me put her in her crate(the largest size we could find), I leave her food, snacks, and water, and she always gives me this look, "Will you just leave, I need a break!" My husband has witnessed her doing this many times, and he says that he know just how she feels!

Itn't it wonderful that so many Corgis can now qualify for a LSM after their name. Thus Taylor LSM. It stands for Lip Smacking Merit. Now it has to be verified by a specialist eg a Chef, a Professional Boxer (they do a lot of lip smacking), a Justice of the Peace (ah, I'm one of those - and do I know how to kieep the peace - yeah, don't talk to anyone and only stifled, low decible lip smacking allowed in public), and must be performed on at least eight occasions. Note: lip licking is not valid for this award. If any Corgi who has kibble (dry food) only meals yet still lip smacks could qualify for the next level LSMG - Lip Smacking Merit with Gold Bar
