I just found out yesterday from a friend of mine at work, that her ex husband bought a little pem corgi female puppy. She said that this pup looks like my Chip. I feel so bad because he has other dogs and they are all kept in a fenced in area outside and not allowed in the house. This little pup will be kept in the mix and one dog he has is an unneutered male collie
I told her the story of the little female corgi that died and she said this one will be spayed. Let's pray. I guess he has always wanted a corgi pup - I wonder why. It made me realize that if I don't take the pick of the litter that Chip's breeder has offered me, I am always going to wonder about it.

This is that same guy that you talked about before, right? If so, how sad, this little pup along with all the other dogs are just left to live outside.
It is sad, but there are people that still belive that cats and dogs should live outdoors. I have a friend who grew up on a farm and she told me she would never have a cat or dog in the house(thankfully she has no desire to have one), but I find that thinking the "Norm" with people who grew up on farms(nothing against farmers). |

That is so sad. I will never understand the mentality of those who want a dog or a cat but wont let it in the house...why bother getting it then? you always wanted one? so you can stare at it out the window while it is in the yard sad and unhappy, untrained and without enough human interaction...very sad. I hope minimally he will get this puppy spayed so at least he doesnt have a bunch of unwanted litters of sad puppies.

No Linda - this is a different one. He does have a young daughter who loves the puppy so she will be giving it lots of attention when she is there. I just think that every corgi as well as other dogs deserves a warm, loving family and to be a member of the household and live inside the house so I expect everyone else to think the same as me so I always feel bad when they dont. I can't imagine my Chip being outside in the cold and rain so I invision a poor, sad little puppy too. Chip acts like he has been beat to within an inch of his life when I take him outside to potty in the rain.

I'm with you Chip'sMom, I look at a dog and expect it to have the life that Miss Gambler has, but one only has to visit the nearest shelter to see that is not the case. We have HUGE shelters here, like warehouses, it's endless, and they have some great people running them. Thanks to it being liberal California, they go out of their way to adopt out, no quick-kill facilities in the area! As for Las Vegas, 3,000 people move there each MONTH, and the population there has been moving so much because of all the new developments, and pets are being dropped of at the shelters in droves, and they can't come close to keeping up. Not as liberal there. I donate to our Humane Society several times a year, different fundraisers, but at Christmas for the past three years, since getting Miss Gambler, and out of guilt I think, I have sponsored a full adoption of a dog at our local Humane Sociey. I get really happy on Christmas Day every year now knowing that someone is having their special 1st Christmas with their dog.

That is a wonderful idea. Good for you. I am planning on dropping off 50 lb bag of dog food every other week at our local shelter. It is a very poor shelter and the animals only stay for 2 to 3 days. Sad isn't it. However, I love the sponsor of a full adoption.

Bonnie,
That is SO SAD that they only allow such a short stay for the pets. We have a wonderful, brand new shelter here and animals are given every opportunity to be adopted. They also work with a Correctional institute in an adjoining city where animals that need basic obedience are sent there for 8 weeks and the prisoners work with them and then they are returned to be adopted out. They hold special classes for young children about being a good pet owner and how to care for one responsibly. They do a wonderful job here trying their hardest to find a home for them. |

Shelters ALWAYS need food and bedding(blankets and towels) but the shelters here also beg for toys! That makes me really happy, they realize that they also need this, and that it helps to socialize them making them more adoptable. (And treats, they actually ask for treats, as well.)

Our humane society's shelter is a very very low kill shelter, very few actually, however all the surrounding communities have their own pounds that sadly if they can't be sent to the humane society to have a shot at being adopted, are not reunited with their owner or by some miracle saved by a pure breed rescue, they have little chance of survival. This makes me so sad..This is why I am constantly so passionate about NOT allowing people to breed their dogs if they are not experienced full time breeders with high quality, super healthy dogs...

I am all for spay and neuter of animals. They have started clinics here where the cost is alot less than at a vet's office. I hadn't thought of toys or treats, but I don't think they would use them. I think the dog food and probably should get some cat food also so the cat lovers will not be mad at me. LOL. will help alot. It is sad. I wish I could do more.

I am not sure how your shelters work, but here, if you adopt a dog or cat that is 6 months or older and not spayed or neutered, you make an appointment with your vet and the dog/cat is taken there by the humane society for the surgery to be done. You cannot take the animal home until this is done.
If the dog/cat is under 6 months old, then you have to pay an extra $100 on top of the adoption fee and you will get the $100 back once the neuter/spay is done and they receive verification from the vet that this is done. I think as funds come in they are starting to do some neuter/spays at their expense on dogs and cats to make them more adoptable |

All of these stories make me so sad. I just want to bring all of these animals home with me. This is why I need to win the lottery, so I can start my "Rescue Ranch".
I hope everything works out well for that little corgi pup. The shelter we have in our area is no-kill also, which is good. I think I might do the adoption sponsor thing this Christmas too, and put some extra good karma out there.MGM - I used to live in Myrtle Beach, SC, which is another transient area like LV. People come and go like crazy there, and they just leave their pets when they move. And not at a shelter either. They just leave them. It's horrible the amount of stray dogs & cats there. That's how I got my cat when I lived there, and how my mother got hers. They were left by their owners, wandering around scared and lonely, and one day they were crying at our respective doorsteps. Poor babies. How could someone do that?

Do you guys know how businesses have "Mission Statements", well I think that GOCORGI should have one, and it should be focused on education. Go back and read the posts that we all just wrote, we all want to do something, and that something is already here, right in front of us, we're educating, each other, as well as new/future owners. And if we can do that correctly, and help puppies and their owners, then we are really doing something important, and that makes GOCORGI extremely important! This site can really be quite special, it could be known as THE place to go for definative information on Corgis.
