Treats, biscuits, toys -- nothing is ever chewed, he just hides it under the bed or the sofa. Since I caught on to him and his hoarding whenever I give him a treat I try to get him to eat it on the spot but he always runs off. Whenever I say, "Dewey!" he just runs faster! |

Dewey: that is so cute, I can just picture that little puppy hightailing with his stash. I didn't realize that dogs did this, I knew that cats do. My husband gets tickled with Miss Gambler and her toys, she has to keep them all together in the middle of her bedroom floor, she has them all rounded up like they are her sheep, and she checks on them very often. My husband says that he thinks of the saying from LORD OF THE RINGS, "Precious, my precious" when he sees her with her belongings.

We feed Lady in the bathroom away from the other dogs and when I have bowl in hand and Lady is prancing around heading for the bathroom, Chip leaves his dish and runs over, gets behind her, barks at her and trying to nip her fanny. Once she is in the bathroom, Chip goes back and eats his food. Last night, he did it with Jasmine as we feed her on the deck. I would say this is herding, wouldn't you think????????

These are great stories!! Huw doesn't have too many opportunities to chew on stuff he's not supposed too...or maybe he just has't found them yet. Every morning though when I get in the shower, I put my slippers between the toilet and the sink, and 99% of the time, one slipper is mysteriously missing. I don't hear him come in...but I can hear him scurry off...high tailing it out of the bathroom. He doesnt take it very far, and he rarely chews on it, but it's his little game every morning. When they are by the bed or anywhere else, he doesn't touch them. He will usually play with his toys in the same spot and he doesn't do much hiding. When he was smaller, he was able to get under the bed and the sofa and chew on the lining...he's always come out with a big puff ball of stuff and look at me with his..."Hey mom..look what I got" look.
Bonnie...that sounds like herding qualities to me. Chip knows where she has to go and directs her there. How cute!!! Huw has some herding skills hidden somewhere...he likes to herd us around the yard when we play...he nips and barks at our feet when we run around.

Love my two to death, they do behave most of the time, but both are chewers. No way around it.
This week: Lulu chewed thru her collar (I only buy Lupine which offer free replacement) and Tucker chewed up the hard plastic treat dispenser shaped like a football. Tuck has a thing for shoes. So early on I made a lifestyle change - I started putting shoes in the closet. What a concept: I can always find my shoes now days!

Glad that works for you Susan. I have lost many a shoe (I say shoe because it is only one of a pair) to Chip. Now I put my vacuum cleaner in front of the closet door because if it doesn't latch tight, the little stinker paws it until it opens and raids my shoes. Only when I am at work and only my shoes.

How cute...our vacuum cleaner also served as a guard in the depths of the laundry room (two steps) where the cat box is. It worked for about a week, and when Huw figured out that it doesn't move without help, cat box was fair game again. He still runs away when the vacuum comes out, but it's no longer an effective guarding tool. Justin finally had to build a 2 foot stand with a platform for the cat box. Thank goodness I have a handy guy and some pretty adapting cats. Sheesh!!! The things we do for some sanity.

Z dog Z - One of the top adverts on New Zealand television, is one featuring a puppy running off with a toilet roll and unravelling all the paper. Its meant to depict soft, strong and sought-after toilet paper.
Taylor's chewing and shredding domain are the cardboard parts of toilet rolls, kitchen paper towels and lunch wraps - with the latter being the most prized because it is the most solid. Taylor destroys nothing else (though things were a little different when he was a puppy and my then seven year old son left plastic toys lying around). So every so often i have the task of picking up bits of wet cardboard from the floor. Quite often Taylor uses what's left of them, for grabbing and then wanting to be chased by someone in the house with the object in his grips. |

Was it Zia? LOL!! I should have made a video of Zia doing that and sent it to the makers of Angel Soft...since Zia is such an angel! Last edited by ZdogZ; 11-19-2006 at 09:42 AM. |

When Ponzo was little and we still had puppy pads in his pen while we were at work, he figured out how to shred them. Then he decided his poop actually was new tasty treat, ugh! Many times, we came home to find his little poops picked off of the puppy pad and smooshed into the linoleum tile. As soon as he would see us coming to the pen, he would grab his teddy by the ear and drape him casually over the smooshed poop, lay his paw gingerly on top of teddy and look at us like, "what's up guys, nothing to see here, go back to what you were doing." We laughed so hard it made scrubbing puppy poop a lot easier to swallow!

Speaking of Lord of the Rings... On Dewey's second or third night here he found my copy of Tolkien's the Silmarillion on the floor and he started chewing on it. I was watching something on my comp so all I heard was him roughing something around on the floor. I turn and freaked out! He dropped the book and took off under my bed and I learned that puppy-proofing includes books!
Dewey is also big on feet. He loves sniffing, lick and putting his cold nose on feet. He also loves anything related to feet: socks, boots, shoes -- he loves it all. When I take my socks off, he sniffs them and grabs them up and then takes them... right under the bed.
