He dropped the book and took off under my bed and I learned that puppy-proofing includes books!

Oh, I KNOW that! As a grad student, I always have books around - everywhere - and Rhys has done some damage to several. Andy actually chewed the ribbon bookmark (attached to the book) off my copy of Thomas Mann's The Magic Mountain. It's an 800+ page book and, since I still had 300 or so pages left, each time I flipped the pages they had to come unstuck.

I always say my dogs have a "taste for learning"...bwah-hah!

Another Tex story. . my sister and her Mini-Pin mix Ali came over to my house to play in the yard. .. if Ali gets ansy and needs some energy released. . Tex is the right target to do that as they chase each other around the yard.

My sister grabbed a gallon of milk for me and I paid her a couple dollars for it. She refused the cash so I stupidly stuck it in the handle of the gallon container. . .and put it on the porch. Not even 10 seconds later. . .Tex FLIES up the stairs to the porch and snitches the two bucks and runs towards the door into the house (she likes to run around the house with things like "LOOK WHAT I GOT!! HA HA HA!" and hides it.) I follow her and she drops the money. . .

I'm shocked though. . she hasn't entertained the idea to go for the wrapped Christmas gifts. . .perhaps it's because I have the Vacuum cleaner in front of it. . .who knows. What a stinker. :-)

I'm sure everyone already knows this, but, just in case someone doesn't . . . if the gifts contain chocolates or anything else that might be toxic to dogs, don't leave them on the floor where dogs can get them. I have heard many stories of dogs unwrapping gifts left under the tree and eating things that were not good for them (usually chocolate, a popular holiday gift). And the stories do not all end happily.

Knowing how many other protective moms (like myself) are on this site, just thought I would mention it.

PS Tex - that is a very funny story!! I can just see Tex taking a victory lap with her $2 (Susan - I hear that kid from "Better Off Dead" in my head again! Two Dollars . . . I want my Two Dollars . . . )

Oh my gosh jessica, I loved that movie, it is such a classic, i quote it all the time and no one seems to know what the heck i am talking about, we definately need to hang out LOL!!!

My husband and I went out to eat tonight. We weren't gone 45 minutes and decided that Zia would be ok left out of the crate. We got home and she had pulled back the carpet by the door and had carpet padding strung all over the living room. I called her over there and asked her "what is this?" She layed her ears back, slunk down, then turned and ran into her crate.

Zdog - Zia is very smart. No she never damaged the carpet but what was under it. This is difference in damage replacement of a few cents in comparison to hundreds of not thousands of dollars. It is no mean feat for a Corgi pup to lift carpet to locate the underlay.
Her reaction reminds me of Taylor when I have left him in the back of our property and he skips through the stream into a neighbour's property and back into ours and ends up at the front door. He does this quite often and he always slinks in the house looking very gulity after I have opened the front door to find him, and just prior to a towelling (never a telling off).
