OH my goodness Jessica, that is too funny! Jackie really is just like Dillon- he gets the tennis ball squeaker toys, but will sometimes shear the yellow fuzz off of it if I am not paying attention to him. He has a built in radar when it comes to a toys weakness, and even if taken away for a period of time, the moment he gets it again, he goes right for the weakened arm, leg, ear or whatever... I lauged too hard about the titanium dog toys...hmmm LOL!

I bought one of those Bow Wow beanies today and he already has one of the ears partially off, so I cut them both off
, I will see what he goes after next - but the ears of anything seem to be his favorite starting point. And Cody goes after the tennis ball fuzz also, I just don't give him those anymore.

Jackie likes ears too - and feet - end eyes - and tails - sigh!
And anything with hair gets a crew-cut before I give it to her. Saves her a step, because I know it's going to be the first target! Nutty doggies!

I bought Chip one of the Ty groundhogs - just a body and head. He loves it and hasn't destroyed it yet. Chip is very selective as to what he destroys. He has a toy that the breeder sent home with him that is soft and squeaky and whole about a 4 inch egg shape thing. It is dirty and it is his favorite toy. Other toys will only last a short time. Just depends on if he likes it or not. His trainer gave him a toy for graduation and he had that destroyed within 5 minutes of being home.

On a positive note, my Monster Jaws boy has been doing pretty well with those sterilized beef bones that were recommended a few threads back. So far just a few teeth marks on one end, and he does seem to like them OK. Whew! -Debi |

Debi, I had posted this a few threads back, is this the one that is working for you or the other white Merrick bone? |

Hi Linda,
Yes, those are the ones. I bought one locally at Petco (Red Barn brand, I think) just to see if he liked them. I got the natural kind - not smoked. So far, so good. And when he gets bored with chewing on it, he picks it up in his mouth and flings it up and down the hallway! Nutty corgi! -Debi |

Dudley shreds the rope toys as well!! He could care less about the rest of the toy. A few hours after giving him one, I find little pieces of rope all over the house and a few hours after that, he usually has the bulk of the rope laying somewhere on the floor. Those titanium toys are sounding better and better

We tried the Merrick bone with Ace and he was able to get chunks of the bone off!
Like inch size pieces! We have since tried the Red Barn bones that Linda suggested and they are a hit! Ace loves the filling and he has yet to bite off any size piece! Jim will stuff the ends with some natural jerky treats for Ace to keep him busy for a few minutes! LOL And cross your fingers - so far Ace has not destroyed a stuffed toy in about a week and a half! Lucky us! Maybe he's taking a break, although he did get to the stuffing in his bed last week and throw it back up for Jim to clean up!

I still have all three original Merrick bones with just teeth marks on them - but I am glad that the Red Barn ones are working out - it can get frustrating at times trying to find something safe for them to chew on, yet something that will keep their interest for more than a few minutes.

Linda, that is so true. I have spent so much money in this past year and months since we brought him home. It is totally a trial and error thing to see what they like, what is safe etc. I have tried so many of the toys on the market and found many great ideas but poor execution. Example is a toy called soniks- they have squeekers that the dog can hear but humans can't. This is wonderful becuase if you are working in an office ( as I was) and on the phone, a constant squeeking in the background is not cool. So I bought a bunch of these expensive plush toys with the silent squeeker..Dillon loved it, but he ripped them apart in no time flat. They are quiet small, 4-5 inches long - and very soft and easy to rip apart. See now why can't they take the technology and place that squeeker into something that is tough.
Eitherway I have bought so many different toys to see how he does with them and some that I thought would be a no go, were fine for him, and others that seem soooo tough had a weak spot discovered in mere minutes...you never know until you try them. Emilie |
