The times I have had two Corgis they were never allowed to beg around the dinner table. If they had done so and got into a tangle, I would have picked the instigator up, put him into confinement for the duration of the meal. After a few of these, it is unlikely there would be any further problems.

What is a cesar milan claw method? I don't watch his shows very often so I don't have a clue.

Well- first off, we rarely eat at the dining room table, no animals are allowed around it when we do eat there...mostly becuase it means we have company. At home normally we eat in the living room and the Dillon and Misty are the ones who hang around the area. I agree they should not be begging, but you tell that to them. . I do not feed them until I am completely done with my meal and get up to bring the plate to the kitchen, at that point i might MIGHT give a small piece of chicken to misty and to Dillon. Normally they are wonderful and take turns - but this one time, Dillon though that by chasing misty away he would get all of it, and i was telling him that it does NOT work that way in THIS house ..he got the message and we have not had a repeat performance.

Bonnie, the hand bite method i was talking about is cesar's touch method. he makes his hand look like a mouth ( make a claw hand thumb down fingers curved)..and then a quick firm but not painful in anyway touch to the dogs neck. It is not painful, it is just a quick touch, but it gets their attention. I only do it in extreme cases with Dillon. He normally listens pretty well, He only has gotten that a few times, once when not calming down with the hyper dog next door walking by, I was trying to get him to heel with me away from this dog, and he was pulling and not listening, i called his name about 5 times and he would not look at me , he was focused on this dog.so he got the touch, and it kind of snaps him out of it even if for but a moment, that is all it took for me to redirect him elsewhere. It is what cesar does sometimes with this verbal SHHHH. he makes the noise and does the touch...lets the dog know he is alpha there. Again we all know our dogs best and know what might work and might not. For Dillon - it works.

Thanks Emilie. I watched cesar millan last night with a bulldog and he used that method. He was telling the owners not to lay on the dog to subdue him because it made him angrier. It was interesting.

My husband took the claw method from Cesar and made it work for him, two things that I took from the show that work for me are the quick "SHHHH" (and I loudly click my fingers when I do so, she hates it, which is why it works, she doesn't want to hear it), and the tap to her hind end with my foot to redirect Miss Gambler when walking her. Works like a charm. (And if you don't know what I'm talking about, please don't accuse me of kicking her, it's not like that, while walking, and never missing a beat, if you notice that your dog has noticed, or about to notice something, swing your foot behind you and tap their hind end lightly just to get their attention and redirect and keep walking. It works.)

MGM - You sound like you are very much more coordinated that I am. About the time I tried that with Chip, I would get tangled up in his leash and go flat on my "behinder" LOL. Glad it works for you.

I just finished reading Cesar's book (Cesar's Way), and he would not like the way I treat my dogs. My dogs are so humanized that they do not realize they are dogs. Zip is so humanized that my husband has taught him to eat off of a fork. LOL!! As I was reading, I would read "if you do this...." and I would say to myself "I do that."

Cesar has worked with a number of business associates of mine, it's how he made his name, and I have had to stop my husband more than once from calling him. He swears that all Miss Gambler needs is two weeks in his boot camp to be resocailized as a pack animal to solve all of our problems. He calls me the AntiCesar. I love Miss Gambler dearly, but I broke all the rules with her, the problems that she has are all my fault. (Except the food aggression thing, I don't lay claim to that one.)

I really enjoyed reading his book and enjoy his show, too. I know that he's good. I wish I had his touch, but I can't help but treat my "babies" the way that I do. We (my husband, I, and our dogs) could probably be his "poster children" of what not do do!
