Cool True Story

Last weekend I was out with Huw, and he was getting the normal questions. How old is he? What kind of dog is he? What's his name? etc. etc. Well, one person asked me "Is that a dwarf dog?" I almost said no...and stopped myself when it hit me. I answered "As a matter of fact, it is a dwarf dog." He looked at me with the question of "What kind of dwarf dog?" I guess they've started shrinking larger breeds and calling them dwarfs. Anyway, I shared with him the name "Cor Gi" and broke it down for him. He was a bit confused, but I was pretty impressed that I remembered.

There are only three breeds of 'true' dwarf dogs - Corgis, Bassets and Dachshunds.
Dwarfism in dogs is the result of an abnormality, whereas toy dogs are a variation within normal limits of genes ie developing miniaturized strains by selective breeding.

Actually there are more than three achondroplastic breeds. Scottish terriers, Skye Terriers, Dandie Dinmont Terriers ...

Debbie - You'll find that the Terriers you mentioned are not 'true' dwarf breeds as defined by professional canine experts.

I think we've had this discussion before in another thread. I'll stand by the veterinary links I posted there.
