My husband grew up with a Belgian Melamois(sp?), and he swears that Miss Gambler has a big dog bark, when she decides to speak, which isn't all that often, she gets heard. (One funny thing here, my husband doesn't really care for the big dog bark, so when she wants to let it out and he's home, she walks around "woof, woof, woof", you all know what I mean, puffing that air out of the cheeks. With me, she goes full blast, and I'm the one who gets migraine headaches!)

Jackie is not a barker (thank goodness!), but she's a big talker (like Chloe). And when she talks she has a deep voice. She does do that puffy barking like MGM described above, done mainly in response to a "questionable" object (like the sinister looking pile of leaves we passed the other night! ).

Cody barks range from High pitch(when he may see something strange in the back yard) to a low woof when we are on a walk and he encounters something suspicious - like some garbage bags sitting at the end of someones driveway.

He does do a lot of the arooooooo thing, especially when he is greeting someone or when he is coming downstairs in the morning. When we play, he will do a higher pitch bark in anticipation of having the toy tossed to him. He also does these "sigh sounds" when I tell him to stop doing something he is not supposed to be doing.

But he is not one to bark for the sake of barking. He is generally a pretty quiet dog.

Neither of my two aroooooo. Breaks my heart! Tuck is the strong silent type but Lulu is a talker. At night she climbs up on the couch w/ me, snuggles up and proceeds to tell me about her day with a whole array of funny noises ranging from trills to grunts to moans to snorts! She can be so funny!

Tuck has the saddest bark when he suspects danger. It reminds me of a wolf.

BARK, BARK, BARK....that's what my dogs do...all the time. they like to bark at each other, people, bugs, toys, whatever....

Wicca has a deep bark for a girl, and she Arooo's when I come home or when she is especially happy. Her bark is a nice bark- not too loud, but she gets the point across!
Sam has an ear shattering, very annoying bark. He isn't as charming with his barking. He has a really cute muffled bark though- when I get home they are of course very excited and Sam barks....so, I give him a toy and he can still bark but it is much more quiet it is amazing really-but he can bark even with a tennis ball or a bone or whatever in his mouth.

I have a funny story about barking. When I was considering getting a sceond dog (this is pre-corgi) I had seriously considered an Australian Cattle dog- I love the drive, the energy, the size, the look, everything. EXCEPT the barking. I decided not to get a cattle dog becuase they barked too much. So I decided on a corgi- my friend said- well, they are barkers too....I was convinced that MY corgi woudn't bark. Well they bark, alot...maybe more than an ACD....My friends still really bug me about it.....

Rhys barks whenever he hears someone outside our apartment...then I tell him to be quiet and he does that - um, puffy barking? - that lets anyone know (even though they are outside!) that he KNOWS they are there! His bark is pretty big, though he uses a high-pitched one sometimes when he is playing with other dogs.

Andy only barks when she is trying to get Lulu the Lab to play with her. Lulu and Rhys will wrestle and run around and Andy goes BARK!BARK! at them. Her voice is kind of high pitched.

(Lulu is staying with us until Saturday night b/c her Mommy is out of town so I am getting to hear more of Andy than usual. )

Tex is quite the talker at her early age. . . She's got a play bark. . high-pitched puppy bark. . .she'll barroooo when she wants my fun attention. . .sighs exactly when said before. . when told not to chew on something, etc. Noisy yawns, and even the "fussy toddler fighting sleep" snarfs when she's sleepy but still wants to play.

Best moment was when she and my sister's dog Ali (Mini Pin mix) talked back (arroooo'ed) back and forth with each other. . .priceless!

Dillon is not an excessive barker at all. When someone is at the door he gives me the warning barks which are very deep - my hubby had a very large German Shepherd ( before we were together) and he swears Dillon sounds like him. If he is told to shhh.. he will bring the bark down to a puffy bark - WHen we play ball, IF i dont throw it fast enough or play a little keep away with it, he will bark happily. The only time we get an Aroooo bark is when daddy comes home and surprises him. Normally he hears the garage door open and starts barking them...joyfully running from the door to me and back over and over again in anticipation of seeing daddy...however, on occasion the garage door is already open and daddy "sneaks in" and if Dillon is relaxing he jumps up with a big AROOOO followed by lots of barking.
Dillon is a mumbler as well...he makes all kinds of funny sounds, I swear he says mama...hubby thinks i like to THINK he says mama ...LOL!!! oh well. He also rarely whines...only on occasion in the car, and it is promptly corrected...

I have been teaching him to do the puffy bark on command, asking him to whisper...different from speak where i want a good loud bark. My training treat to teach this one...tomato soup...

Emilie

Molly hardly ever barks which is nice after having a very vocal Sheltie (but i would give anything to hear my Sheltie's bark now as I had to have her put to sleep after 15 years!). The only time we hear Molly bark is on occasion when she gives sassy "back talk" after being told NO. I do which she would make some kind of sould when she needs to go out. She justs sits at the top of the stairs and if you dont notice quickly, she will have an accident in the house. We have her almost a whole month before we heard any bark from her.

Rupe has a whole repertoire of barks and noises. He doesn't bark a lot, but he seems to have a different one for every occasion.

He does the half bark - buff, buff - just in case you need one ,then it's ready.
He does the high pitched yap as he runs and rolls which means he's happy.
He does the throaty gurgle-growl that I feel the vibration from come up the leash when he's protecting us from another dog in the 'hood.
He does the whooooooooooo of greeting to people he really loves - we call it the happy who.
My favourite noises are when I come home from work. He trills, yodels, grunts and gurgles with excitement when I come in the door.

Jemma is pretty quiet so far - she has a really sharp funny bark when she wants Rupe's attention - it always startles both of us! If she learns from Rupe, we'll have a whole orchestra of Corgi sounds!

Ruby has a loud deep bark when she spots "trouble" which could be almost anything. When she finishes with the trouble bark she ends with a soft woof or two.
