Corgi Sighting!!
I was coming back from the store today and to my suprise spotted a fluffy r/w corgi being walked by her owner! Of course... you know I had to go introduce myself and say hi... but she was heading around the back of the building.... so I ran the groceries inside, dumped them in my husband's lap, leashed up Checkers and ran back outside. I caught her coming back up the front side of my building (apartment complex has multiple buildings). She was in uniform (the owner) from working weekend duty and is the same rank as my hubby. She said she felt bad though because she had moved from a house with a yard to the apartments and was gone a lot with work. So, I told her I was home most of the day and I would be happy to have her corgi over to play anytime with Checkers (they were getting along quite well). Her pups name is Sammy and she is quite a bit smaller than Checkers but just as adorable. So.... hopefully Checkers will have a new play buddy coming over to play with him during the day. Perfect for her so she isn't bored... and perfect for us because we get the benefit of having an extra corgi around without the costs. This was only the second corgi I have seen in this area since getting Checkers... and she looks to be much better taken care of. Exciting!

How exciting for you and Checkers! Even though I have two, I still love running into others - rarely. We are trying to get a Corgi group going in Toronto and we've had a couple of play dates so far - love watching them tear around together!

Over Thanksgiving when Cody spent the night at the Dog Day care he goes to, I was busy checking him in and turned around and there was a man with his Corgi who was also going to be staying
I was so excited because this is the first time I have seen a Corgi here other than a Corgi/jack mix that I saw at one time. I have been told there are a few older ones that come there for boarding, but I have not seen them yet.Anyway, I had called later in the evening to see how Cody was doing and was told that he and this new Corgi were enjoying playing together. |

Corgi 27th member of the Wellington Welsh Corgi Walking Club is a 7.5 old female named Alison who has driven past me on several occasions. This time the driver stopped and was very keen to join 'my' club. She said Alison was in need of socialising with other dogs. She loves people but not so outgoing around dogs - so the Corgi club should be good for her. Alison is on the small size but very pretty. I've encouraged the owner for her and Alison to visit us and get to know Taylor, so I'm waiting for a phone call any day now.

Today at the Dog Park a man came with two lovely Pems on leashes. Duchess was busy with something else but I got her attention to the two dogs and direct her that way off lead. I hailed the owner and still walking toward the dogs they started to bark at Duchess and show their teeth. My girl stopped midway while the two others were showing extreme aggression. It was very sad that those dogs could not be trusted to run and play with the other dogs at the park. All the way down the road the man walked the dogs as they continued to bark at every dog they met.

Oh Jane - that must have been such a disappointment! My heart would soar if I saw corgis at the park (or anywhere, for that matter) . . . but then they turn out to be unfriendly . . . so sad!
At least Duchess is smart enough to stop when dogs are barking and showing teeth . . . not my girl . . . she's undeterred by aggression . . . does not understand that there are dogs (and people) out there who might not like her!Great news Cheryl, for ALL of you! You should get your new friend to join gocorgi! And what a nice surprise for Cody . . . a Very Corgi Thanksgiving!

Wow, yesterday must have been the day for corgi sightings!
We took Trevor to a new dog park yesterday, because our neighbor told us that she saw a couple of corgis there a few weeks back. Since Trevor has never seen another corgi, except for his litter mates, I was excited! We got there and played ball with the neighbor's Golden Retriever awhile, then sure enough, here come the two corgis! A sable & white Pem and a tri-colored Cardigan. I was beside myself, waiting to see what he would do. Much to my surprise, he rolled over and acted submissive when they started to sniff and check him out! I say surprise, because he is anything but submissive with big dogs. He loves playing with them and rough-housing, to the point where I keep a close eye to make sure he doesn't get hurt! Of course, the two corgis WERE girls, so maybe it was just some weird corgi mating ritual! Anyway, they ended up all playing ball together and having a good time. And Trevor soon figured out that the corgi's owners had treats in their pockets, so he turned on the charm and got fed, too. My life is now complete... -Debi |

We saw the Corgis on the Eukanuba/AKC dog show on Animal Planet last night (the second and final night). The Pem was a tri, for a change, and very cute.
The Cardi was Harry Potter, who I have seen in other dog shows (he is the top Cardi in the nation, apparently, and for good reasonn: he is a great-looking dog!).Anyway, the two Corgis got "short-listed" - they and about 6 or 7 others did a second go-round. But alas, neither made the top 4. I think Geneva, the GSD, won the group.

I watched the dog show too. Both of the Corgis were very beautiful. Milo thinks it's not a dog show worth watching if the Corgi doesn't win something!
Geneva was very pretty, but well....a Corgi needs to win best in show someday! By the way, are Cardigans longer than Pems? Harry Potter from last nights show had a back that didn't quit...or is that just how the camera was angled? He seemed twice as long as the Pem! |

I'm getting excited. This Sunday is the Christmas party for the Utah Corgi group that I found just recently. It is at a restruant so I won't get to meet any new doggies, but I'm looking foward to getting to know the owners. With any luck there will be at least one close to us that we can have play dates and such with. Either way, I'm sure it will be fun getting to meet other corgi nuts!

Corgi pals!
Imagine my surprise when I took Delilah to introduce her to our veternarian (and schedule her spay/hernia surgery) and found out that they own 2 pembrokes!
I am thrilled to know that he (and his wife/vet partner) have corgis! Now I have someone local (within 1 mile) that I can ask questions of that really knows corgis. It feels great to know that and to be assured that it is a vet that I trust. When the weather warms up, we can walk to the vets office for our appointments. I am looking forward to that. I miss the walk I got to take with Cheryl (and family) and Checkers. It was a beautiful walk. |

Checkers - was the Corgi club's Christmas party at the restaurant a daytime or nighttime occasion. How many people turned up. How did it go.
It might be an idea for the Corgi club I run - though at the end of one of the walks we had, we finished up at a really nice cafe in a country village for afternoon tea (coffee and something to eat). For those people who sat around the tables outside, their Corgis were welcome to join them. |

This was in the evening and I would say about 15 people were there. Keep in mind that I have no idea how many are actually in the club though so no clue what percentage that was. Seems like all of the most active members made it though.
-Cheryl PS-As for the other corgi in the apartments... she never brought her back by for a playdate and I have not seen her again... her owner told me when we met she was going to be shipped to Hawaii this month to stay with her parents so I doubt I will see her again. Sad, I was hoping to have a play-mate for Checkers. |

Delilah, Very good news that you have a vet that is familiar with corgis. That is a big plus.
Coming back from the dog park I spotted a man walking a nice red and white corgi. I had Duchess in the back seat but she was low in the car and he couldn't see her. I automatically waved to him and he waved back to the nutty woman that he didn't know. I couldn't stop and explain that I was excited about seeing a corgi, and I felt a little foolish. But that is how we silly pem owners are. |
