Chip Meets a Baby

Yesterday, My daughter brought my just turned two year old great granddaughter up for a visit. This is the first time Chip has been around a baby other than chance meetings at Lowes, etc. He was so excited. He wiggled, waggled and kissed her for several minutes. He was very gentle and they both loved it although he knocked her glasses astray a couple times in his excitement. She just readjusted them. (She has a problem with her eyes and will have surgery when she turns 4) He shared his toys with her and she played in his toybox. (sad isn't it - I had no real baby toys in the house) Anyway, she still has a pacifier and at one point, she went over to my daughter and said "patsy - dog" Chip had stolen her pacifier Good news was we rescued it without a toothmark anywhere. He did all his tricks for her and had a great time. My daughter sat on the floor with the baby and played fetch with Chip giving him cookies, of course. The baby started throwing the ball and Chip brought it back to her several times for free. I was so impressed! As you all know, Chip doesn't do anything for free. Well, the next thing I know, Chip has his little mouth glued to the end of her patsy while it is in her mouth and she has the ball in her lap. Fair trade - Chip thought so. If anyone needs lessons on the "nothing in life is free" training program, you may contact Chip! I wish I had my camera handy. Fast trip to Petsmart last night provided Chip with his very own patsy and he will have nothing to do with it. Guess it just doesn't taste as good as the baby's.

OH that is way too cute! Chip is such a good boy! I am really glad that they got along so well. I would not give a pacifier to a dog - too many small parts to chew off and swallow- and he only wanted the baby's becuase it wasn't his LOL! oh and more importantly it smelled like sweet baby! Glad that went so well..

The one I bought for Chip is a doggie pacifier. It is all rubber and squeaks. Too cute except he doesn't like it. They sell them at Petsmart.

OHHHH... *blushing* I thought you meant ones meant for human babies... I should have known what you meant...and yes i have seen the ones for dogs at Petco...i offered it to Dillon in the store to see if he liked it and he wouldnt touch it...so we moved on until he managed to find a huge stuffed furry bunny toy that was in a bin on the bottom of the racks there, which he began carrying so I HAD to buy it LOL!

That is ok - my post wasn't very clear anyway. Chip is right in tune with Dillon. He will have nothing to do with that pacifier but I am going to petsmart today so he can get his picture taken with Santa and of course we will stroll down the aisles. Spoiled baby. I bought his elevated dogdish last night and it works great for him eating. A BIG thanks Deb for the idea.

What a little gentleman Chip is, some dogs just love babies and little kids. I think it's the higher pitched voices and squeals and attention. If Jem hears little girls and I'm dragged over to them for lots of snuggling and attention. The little girls in my building just love them both and Rupe and Jem are really good with them.

The pacifier thing is funny - when Riley was a very young pup, she found a pacifier in the playground. For about three months I had to walk around the neighbourhood with a dog holding a pacifier in her mouth just as a baby would. She never chewed it, just would pick it up whenever we went out and insist on bringing it. She didn't touch it inside.

Dogs are weird - no doubt.

That is the cutest story. Would love to see a pic of that one. I wonder if that is what Chip would have done. It was very unusual for him not to chew or at least leave teethmarks on something he steals and you could tell that he wanted that pacifier oh so bad.

You didn't miss a post - it was a private message and Debbie suggested an elevated bowl to help my Lil Chip have ease of eating because of his overbite. I had always joked that Miss Gambler should have a pacifier, she is my baby after all, so when I found the dog one at Petco a couple of years ago, I bought it, and she wanted nothing to do with it. Until one day she comes down the hall, from her bedroom, with the pacifier in her mouth! She's played with it ever since, she'll just walk around with it in her mouth, it really does it's job, it pacifies, like a security blanket type thing. It's so cute, and it also proved my point, she is my baby!
