A Corgi Christmas...
Today Milo and his kitty sister Tiramisu and I put out some Christmas decorations, and set up the tree. I hung his stocking on his crate and he's hoping Santa Paws will bring him lots of delicious treats and toys!
Curious: do you buy your Corgi presents? Do you wrap them and let them open them? I hope i'm not weird to to do that! Milo seems to just KNOW which gifts are his and he waits until one of his gifts are handed to him and then he very proudly walks around the room with it in his mouth, his whole bunny butt wagging, and once he's satisifed that everyone has seen that he has a gift to open...he settles down and starts ripping the paper. Once it's opened he abandons it and comes back for another present! Just like most kids!!

This will be my first Christmas with Zia. In the past we have wrapped Zip's presents, so there will be some wrapped gifts for my babies this year. I'm looking forward to seeing how Zia will react to her presents. If she'll "open" them, or if I'll have to help. I put my tree up today (just the tree and lights) and so far Zia has left the tree alone. In the next day or so I'll put up the ornaments. I'm kind of sad about getting the ornaments and stockings out because I have ornaments and stockings for my cats that died this summer, but having Zia and Zip will help!

Last christmas was Dillon's first. We had more things under the tree for him than for us...each individually wrapped...no ribbons on them. He had his own stocking which was stuffed with toys and such. Yes, he learned to unwrap his own presents (only) by the second one! He had so much fun. I am not sure who had more fun, us or him! We couldnt stop laughing. I got one present, he got one present, my husband got one, by the end he was the only one with presents left so it was ALL about him. He gets the toy out and then runs off with it for about 30 seconds, just long enough for him to put it near his other toys next to his toy box. It was cute, Just watch to make sure they don't eat the wrapping, only tearing it. And for this year i have put all food items ( both dog treats and human foods like chocolates, and such) off the floor out of Dillon's reach. Interestingly he wont rip open the packages until we sit down and offer him one...and only then the one that is given...very funny...
ZdogZ- I do understand how hard it is to take the tree out when you have reminders of ones that have passed over to the bridge...I lost my beloved soulmate kitty Clinton jan 29,2005 and when I pulled out the tree in '06 there were his hairs all over the tree skirt...I spent an hour in tears. Then i went to the "things Remembered" store, got a silver picture frame ornament and had it engraved with his name and date of his passing and I got one of my favorite photos of him put in the frame and now that goes on my tree as a way to have him right there with the family at every Christmas...I wish you peace -Emilie Last edited by Dillydoodle; 12-04-2006 at 05:26 AM. |

I am so excited about Christmas this year. This will be chip's first. I have already bought him a new stocking and Christmas presents. I think I will wrap some and put some in his stocking. Last year, I had Digger but I will pack his stocking away with other items that remind me of him. I am hoping to hang a memory ornament if I can. To everyone that has lost pets this year - remember the good times and I pray for peace and acceptance in your & my heart this season.

We put up our tree on Saturday. I am going to get Cody one or two toys because he has so much already. I will wrap up a few treats also. My last Corgi was never interested in toys - we had tried to engage her in playing, but she just showed no interest; she was already about 2 when we adopted her. Anyway, I made up for the toys with Cody.
I have a paw print ornament from my last Corgi - She was put to sleep last December and the vet made one of those impression ornaments for me out of that molding material, with her paw print - that will be on my tree this year. Cody was particularly interested in the hand blown glass snowman ornament that we hung up. It was low enough for him to reach and he would poke it with his nose, and then it would move, and then he would bark at it, run away, and come back and do it again.

This will be Jackie's 2nd Christmas. She has her own stocking also, and Santa is very good to her! Like Emilie & Dillon, Jackie had more gifts than us last year (and will again this year too). We didn't wrap last year, just cut off all the tags & stuff and put them under the tree after Jackie went to bed on Christmas Eve. But after reading all of these cute present-unwrapping stories, I think I might have to wrap them this year . . . stay tuned . . .

I can't wait to fill Trevor's stocking this year (it will be his first Christmas.)
We have always had stockings for the dogs and cats - they are our kids! I also plan to let him romp through the giftwrap (minus tags and bows, of course) after all the presents are open. Should make for a great Xmas morning picture! -Debi |

Dillydoodle: What a wonderful way to remember & honor your beloved Clinton. I think your idea was so touching. I am ready to do something like that for my Maddie cat, (he died last January at age 17) by making a shadow box. I still have the first toy I ever bought him...a felt mouse, his collar, etc. These items, along with pictures and a poem could be made into a shadow box. Christmas is a time of reflection and can be emotional....but there is joy to be found too. Thank goodness we have our fuzzballs to make us laugh and smile at their silly antics.

Milosmom, that is a really wonderful way to remember your Maddie. I have made a memory book as well with lots of his photos, a lock of his hair and Kept his favorite toy, a little cat nip stuffed president Clinton doll that he carried around everywhere, it was was clinton's favorite toy ever... I also had him creamated, most of his ashes are in a beautiful bronze crouching cat sculpture urn and a tiny bit are in a 14ct gold cross (actually a tiny urn) that i wear all the time - This way he is always with me a little in both body and spirit. Dillon was instrumental in helping me heal after the loss of my Clinton- I waited 6 months after Clinton's passing before i brought Dillon home and he has been a joy- Christmas last year was wonderful with our newest family member and we still felt like Clinton was with us in spirit during that time...

Yesterday my husband, youngest daughter, ChloeLouise, and I went out to cut our Christmas Tree! Gorgeous day, lots of snow on the ground - and a Corgi who thought this was the best project ever!! Here is a photo of ChloeLouise in "free-range" mode! I will also try to upload more Christmas tree related photos to the Gallery... The tree is now in the living room and Chloe seems only mildly interested in it so far - altho we do have the baby gates ready! (I wonder what she would do if we put the model train around the base!!
) (Funny thing to note: the snow was deep enough that, as Chloe romped in it, snow balls the size of small apples formed in her "arm pits"!! She is so Fluffy that even in the pristine snow she becomes a mess! I can only imagine that Jackie and Shippo have this problem also!!) |

I used to wrap the dog's gifts & put them under the tree, but now I put them into their stockings. (the ones that fit that is)
I quilted four new stockings for us when we moved into this house 6 years ago, and besides we tended not to put any gifts 'under' the tree, & this picture will show you why.

He is not impressed this year as my husband decided we should have a smaller fiber optic tree & it is sitting on an end table. It was really funny when we brought it home and started to take it out of the box. Gary had it standing up & was sorting out all the branches, Monty went over to it and insisted on sitting right beside it! Poor pupper was claiming this new one for herself, but then it was lifted up onto the table. They both like to go into the livingroom and look at it changing colours though.

What great pics ladies! Chloe in full frap, and Dylan waiting for Santa. Does it get any cuter??? I think NOT!
![]() And yes, Margo, Jackie is prone to snowbals in her "arm pits". I bought her a coat with sleeves this year, hoping to prevent some from forming (I believe that Jespah Deb gave that handy tip some months ago!). They take forever to get out, and I have a train to catch!!!
