Hi Heather,

Bella looks like she'll be a beautiful Corgi!

I must admit that I used to be a bit of a snob about Pembrokes - I didn't really like the fluffy look, I liked a traditional looking Corgi. Since being on this site, I've come to know by looks and personality a number of the fluffs here and I must admit, I've been charmed by them. I agree that she's still a Corgi underneath that fancy hairdo, and that is really the key. We love our dogs for their breed traits, looks and personalities as a package - it sounds like you already have fallen for two of the three in Bella.

Welcome to the site Heather. I owned by one of the aforementioned fluffies, Jackie (aka Fluffypants). I totally understand your feelings about the "typical" corgi look. When I was interviewing / being interviewed by breeders, I was asked if I would take a fluffy. My first instinct was to say no, because I had spent the past 20 years researching corgis (I've wanted one since I was a young girl), and I wanted one that looked like the ones I was familiar with. But after some thinking, I ultimately decided that what I wanted was a CORGI - the personality, intelligence, comic stylings, etc., and that "look" was a very small part of the package when measured against the rest of it.

So I told my breeder that my first choice would be a regular-coat, R&W male, but would take whatever she ultimately recommended. Flash forward 4 months, and I had my baby . . . a fluffy, RHT female! Totally the opposite of what I thought I wanted, but what did I know? I wouldn't trade her for the world.

I keep the pants trimmed short, to avoid any messiness, and I find that 5 minutes of daily brushing eliminates 95% of mats. I have also heard that fluffs shed less than regular-coats, and I think that may be true. Either that, or the daily brushing helps tremendously. Although Jackie sheds A LOT, it doesn't seem (to me) as bad as some of the stories I have heard on here!!!

I think Jackie is a moderate fluffy, as she does not have the luxurious coat of ChloeLouise or Gizmo. I am admittedly biased, but I think she is beautiful. I can't think of any reason not to get a fluffy! Don't get me wrong, I love the regular coats too, and still would like to have one (or two, or three, or eight . . .) someday. But Jackie has opened my eyes to the power of the fluff! You can see (A LOT) of pics of her on my dogster and flickr pages (links below). Your potential new pup is such a cutie. I hope that you do bring her home, and that we will get to watch her grow up here on gocorgi!

Jessica,
Flufflypants is an absolutely gorgeous corgi. Fluffly or not. I see the pictures and just want to kiss and squeeze her. I am in talks with another breeder in my area as well as the one for the fluffy. I am going to keep my options open but will have some kind of corgi soon!

We have finally come to our decision and we did not get the fluffy. There was so much indecision that we just thought it best to pass on this dog until we were sure. So for the past few days we have been calling local breeders. (Since the other one was 2 hours away) We found someone SO close and visited last night. Our deposit is in and she will be here right after Christmas! She is a 9 week old red and white female. We are already in love. Now it's just coming up with a name (my boys want to name her Dora) and waiting!!! I will post pictures as soon as shes with us. Thanks for all your support and insight.

Dora can be taken as an abreviation of adorable. Good name. Looking forward to hearing about your first moments and day/s with the little pup. Fluffies can be a little more trouble than normal coated Corgis in the care of their coats and in hot weather. Looks like you'll be getting Dora at around 11 weeks, good age if she is happy and learning good things where she is now. Good luck.
