Duchess caught a mouse
We have always had a mouse problem in our house. Our big cat Powder is excellent at keeping them under control and lately we hadn't seen any. Tonight I was sitting here at the computer when Duchess dashed into the bathroom and started growling at something at the back of the toilet. I moved a waste basket and she got the mouse. She really didn't know what to do with it. But held it and then put it down to see if it would run. When I went to pick it up she ran with it. She didn't even want to trade it for a biscuit. At one point it got away and the dog and cat were both after it. Duchess seemed to have the keener nose and could follow the mouse better behind obstacles. With my help she was able to catch the mouse again and I took it and put it out. I would have been happy to have her kill the mouse but I didn't want her to eat it. I can't kill a mouse or anything myself so the mouse is alive and hopefully is too scared to come back.

Well, they say that corgis are good varmit killers, guess that just proves it. I know if an ant is in the house, Duncan goes nuts over it. Scratching and trying to bite it. That's about the only varmits we get in the house. Now outside, we've got squirrels all over the neighborhood. If one is in our yard, Chloe is the main squirrel chaser. She HATES them to be in the yard. And too many birds, they congregate and she goes after them. It's sorta funny watching her, cause she stalks them just like a cat would.

I have a sucidial bunny that will stare the puppies down when they are outside. I have lots of small animals, 5 ferrets and 2 chins, so the girls were taught at a very early age to be respectful of them. The ferrets love to come out and chase the poor dogs around.

Way to go Duchess! Jane - I am with you on killing anything. I detest rats and mice but I even swerve my car to avoid hitting them if they run across the road in front of me. I wouldn't want Chip to eat one either.
T- Gal That is the perfect answer. I will have to remember that one.

I believe that Taylor would act much in the same way as Duchess. he hasn't got a killers instinct and regards all animals as best to be wary of, friends, or playmates. But all my other Corgis would have regarded a rat or a mouse as enemy and would have killed them in a whisker.

GO DUCHESS!!!!
We also had a mouse issue as of late (mostly taken care of though. . ) And we can tell when it's gotten into the house because Tex will go ballistic!!! Luckily (at least for the one who would have to snatch it away) she hasn't caught one herself yet. . .though she's chased one out the back door. . .Go Girl! |
