On Friday, Tex gets her first BIG Bye Bye . . . 4 hour drive to Chicago to see Family for Christmas!!!
We're so excited to have her come along with us as part of the family. But here's a question I have. I do not see any problems occurring (She has taken road trips 45 minutes away with no issues. . ) But is there any home remedies in case she gets car sick or goes ballistic while taking the 4-hour jaunt?? I don't want her to have to take anything at all unless absolutely necessary. . I know that Corgis in general love road trips!! I want her to enjoy it too. :-) Has anyone had issues with long-distance trips?? Thanks and Merry Christmas!!!! :-) :-) |

IF Tex enjoys car rides in general, shouldn't be any problems. She'll probably settle in and sleep for most of it. For just in case she might get anxious, you could pick up some Rescue Remedy (health food stores/whole food groceries) or Calms tabs (pet supply stores). In case of carsickness, Dramamine can be given (check with your vet for dosage), but equally effective (and some report more so) ginger snap cookies. Ginger is good for settling tummies, so having some of those on hand won't hurt.
Safe travels and enjoy your visit. Debbie |

A four hour trip should be no problem - and neither should an eight hour trip. Just have a stop every 90 minutes to give your Corgi a little toilet walk, stretch and exercise and a drink of water.

I took Chip on a week long vacation from TN to Florida over to Charleston and back to TN and did not have a problem with him. He slept, did a little sightseeing, ate snacks, played, stopped at a lot of rest areas and had a great time. He was about 4 months old. We are hoping to go back to the beach around the end of February and will be taking Chip and a 3 month old pup then. Traveling is great fun with our furbabies.

My girls, at around 6 months old, took a 15 hour trip one way from New Jersey to Kentucky and then 21 hours to get home with trailer problems. They have been to Ocean City, Maryland, which took about 8 hours, Wildwood, NJ, which took 4 hours, and they regularly are in the car with me for an hour. They absolutely LOVE going places. I was really worried because Violet threw up 3 times all over the place when we first brought her home in the car, but she got over it quickly, and when the leashes come out, they go nuts.

I have a larger than necsessary crate. The longest trip I made w/ him I put the crate in the back of the station wagon with a Nyla bone and hos blanket. He travelled most of the way in the crate. Around town I let them ride in the front seat, back seat, back end of the wagon, wherever they want to be. But when I am driving on interstate highways, I feel better when they are in the big crate.
