Ruby has diarrhea I think

Last wk she had a real watery stool but that went away. This morning she made one of the largest poops she ever made, but I did not think anything of it. I gave her her normal breakfast and was getting ready to go to work when I noticed a large soft unformed poop in the foyer. I cleaned it up and came back and noticed a 2nd one, and then a small 3rd one. I am amazed at the amount of poop she eliminated in total. I do not think this is a spite job and think she may have a stomach virus or diarrhea. I did give Ruby a very dirty look and took her out for a walk in which she managed to do a small poop. I hope she doesn't make the connection that pooping in the house allows her to go out for a walk. We have a dog walker who comes around 12 and I will be home at 5. I hope there aren't any surprises when i get home.

I think I will give her a tablespoon of pepto and a little chicken with rice for supper and watch her for the next couple of days before going to the vet. She is acting normal otherwise. Any advice.

Hey Cardiguy,

Dogs don't poop and pee inside for spite. It's usually because they couldn't wait to get outside to do it. It sounds like she may have a bit of a bug or have eaten something outside that's upset her tummy.

You can give her the Pepto, but giving her chicken and rice will still "feed" the bug or the situation. If you can, don't feed her tonight, make sure she has clean water, and then give her regular breakfast at the usual time tomorrow. If she still has incidents (either inside or out) tomorrow afternoon or later on, then you may want to take her in for a check-up. It's easier on her and your wallet the sooner these things can be checked out.

I was going to say the same thing as Deb- don't feed her at all. Just Pepto and water....

Jackie was having some tummy troubles last week, leaving me some "early Christmas gifts" in the kitchen, and the usual prescription of chicken, rice & immodium (she doesn't like pepto ) fixed her up in a few days. Hope Ruby feels better soon!!!
