Introducing Dale
We had a great trip to Kentucky and enjoyed visiting with Chip's breeder and her dogs. Chip got to spend time with his birth mother and I believe they recognized each other. We stayed about 3 1/2 hours and I got to observe the puppies. They are all beautiful and so fat. I sat down on the floor outside of their pen and watched them for a long time. Five of the little pups lined up for inspection. The one puppy that I have had my eye on for awhile was a cute little fella (one of the largest in size) but he was the top dog at playtime. He would pounce on the other non suspecting victims, grab an ear and growl like crazy. There was absolutely no connection with the little tri boy at all. He was beautiful though. The third little male is a sable and white, middle size in the litter, laid back personality, always on the bottom getting his ear chewed and growled at (but he never growled back) and the best part was - he was in the original five line up and stayed put. He was always the closest to me and sat patiently as if to say pick me. He did not budge as long as I was sitting there and after awhile the others went to nap or play. The breeder says he is a snugglebug. So Little Dale picked me. He is the only one with one ear up already and he has alot of black mixed in with the sable and white. He also has black lines under his eyes like someone took mascara to him. I am hoping that will stay that way. I thought it was unusual. The breeder also told me that Chip is red - I had wondered about that but I am no authority on corgi colors - I just know my Chip is beautiful and he looks very much like his mama. I am going to try to attach a pic that was taken of Dale awhile ago.

What a hard decision to make. I would have gone for the livliest because that's how I like my Pems best, as long as lively is not nasty. Thank goodness I didn't have to pick my current Corgi. Taylor was chosen for me.
I can't remember how I chose my very first Corgi but I can with my second. I wanted a male, so that eliminated the females. I went for the smallest of the males who happened to have the best markings of all the males and the cutest face and best head. All had good fronts. good feet, nicely boned, extremely sturdy, good toplines, black noses, errect ears and no significant faults. All the males were eventually shown at conformation shows and my Ricky turned out the best by far -his ring behaviour was superior to the others (better trained and handled) though he often let out a low growl at the judge when on the table for inspection. I had to tell judges not to pay any heed to his vocalising. |

What a doll! I know you are beside yourself with excitement!
![]() Yep, Chip is a red and white and Dale I believe is going to be also. I'm not seeing any signs of a monk's cap and didn't notice any sable indicators in the baby puppy pictures. Alas tho', sable is a hard color to predict or call at this age. The black will become less pronounced as he grows up, still be there but likely not as intense/striking as it is now. That's just icing on the cake (color and markings), important thing is that he picked you and sounds like an excellent fit. ![]() Debbie |

Bonnie,
I have to mention that when you first said that Chip got to ride in a "buggy", I was not sure what you were talking about, but after seeing your new avatar, I see it is what we refer to as a "shopping cart" here I have never heard of it being called a buggy.

Thanks Deb for clarifying Chip's color. I always wondered. Now the important question - how do I get his color changed on his AKC papers? I will also email the breeder and have Dale registered as red and white. (she will think I am crazy) but I will go with you. We are excited and you will definitely see those two little chipmunks at the corgi picnic. You are right - the important thing is Dale picked me. It will be a good fit. The best part of this color thing is that Digger was red so when I got Chip I wanted a sable so he wouldn't remind me of Digger so much. funny how life works out.
Now tell me - what is a Monk's cap? Do you think he will keep the black markings around his eyes. Chip has a deeper x type markings on his back - is this his saddle markings? We really need a corgi markings 101 class. Linda: In New York, they are called shopping carts too, but as my favorite saying goes "only in Tennessee" (and I say this fondly) it is called a buggy. I have lived here long enough that I talk the talk. After 12 years, people no longer ask me where I came from

Latest Pic of Dale
This is the pic that we took Saturday.
Ok Deb - I got on the pembroke website and answered my own questions. They have a good picture examples on there and Chip is definitely a red and white. It explains the sable color really well. I figured out the monk's cap as well. I do believe Dale will be a red and white.

LOL I have to say I was rollin when I read Linda's post about the buggy.
I forget that not everyone has been introduced to our Tennessee slang. Too Funny Bonnie my hubby and I say very often Only in TN will you see that. LOL Both Darci and Egan were listed as sable and white and both turned out to be red and white.
