You can 'teach' a Corgi to cuddle by deliberately fondling and handling the dog more often and giving him/her the 'soft talk' treatment. Generally the more responsive the Corgi will become over time and will dish out the cuddles but maybe not to everyone.

Hi Pam - your girl is more snuggly than mine was at that age. Jackie's always been stingy with her cuddles (kisses too
). But I can say that she has gotten more snuggly over time. Now she might actually lay on my lap for 5 minutes - which is a big occasion in my house!! So hang in there. Right now I think she just wants to go go go (as you say, she is still just a puppy). As she matures, I bet she'll discover the joy of snuggling (that's my hope anyway!). And good for you for not letting your baby get labelled.

Emma loves to have her head rubbed or her neck but she has never been one to snuggle on my lap or even lay beside me. But she is always near... If I get 5 minutes of lap time that is a big deal.
Chloe has always been my snuggle bunny butt. If I'm sitting down she's on my lap, if I lay down she's beside me, if I'm on the computer she's near my feet. UNTIL this past week!!! All the sudden Chloe doesn't get on my lap. If she gets on the sofa she isn't touching me. Last night she didn't come to bed! This morning I said in a sweet voice "Chloe is such a good girl" She ran to the next room! I can't think of any thing that may have caused this turn about. HELP I want my snuggly girl back - what can I do???

Do you think she is feeling ok? Digger always did that kind of stuff when he wasn't feeling good or he would hide under the bed. Other than that, he was always around me. Chip gets mad at me every once in awhile and avoids me as punishment though.

There are reasons for Chloe's behaviour, but you may never be able to work it out. However, I am sure things will turn around and get back to normality as long as you don't 'push' too hard. Just let it happen.

I don't post much, but my little corgi mix Ben, he cuddles on his own terms. Someone above said that her girl is like a cat. Good way to put it! That is totally my little Ben also. I just have to say that I am glad I found this site where people loves their corgis as much as me! I have never owned one before, (but i have always had a dog) but I am totally hooked.

Chloe has been coming up to me for head rubs this afternoon and she is laying on the floor next to me now. She hasn't done that for a few days sooooo paws crossed. But earlier I tried to get her to jump on my lap and she walked away. Leah came over after school and Chloe was loving all over her. Leah says it's because Chloe loves her best... hard to argue with that but...
I ask Hubby if he could think of anything I may have done - he says "Yep - you put Frontline on her and she's been mad since then"

There you go T-Gal. Chip will do the same thing to me. He has been giving me the evil eye since we brought the pup home and I pay more attention to him now then I did before. He likes the pup - he just is mad at me.
She can be pushy and if allowed will 'take charge'.
That sounds like a typical corgi.
but she's JUST turning 5 months now, what puppy WOULDN'T want to try to play at that age with 11 other young dogs around?
You're right, that's typical of puppies. Most would rather play than work. Just like children. Your job is to be more intresting than the other dogs.
One of the trainers has, right now, two cardigan corgis.
Remember that there are differences between Cardigans and Pembrokes. IMO, Pems are a bit more pushy. They're also the more out going of the two breeds. Knowing Cardgians does not mean one knows Pembrokes. (I've owned both.)
Shortly after this post, I think my girl wasn't feeling too good. She was a cuddle feind for a few days, sitting IN my lap while I was at the puter. Making me eat a little crow for complaining about her not wanting much to do with me. She's right under my feet now.
Remember the 4-5 mos. age is the prime age for teething. So there may be days when she's not feeling great. Peggy |

I have never had dogs b4 corgis that get mad at us and stay that way for days! Hopefully Chip and Chloe will get over their huff soon and be back to their old lovey self ... I thought we wouldn't have "attitudes" in the house when the kids grew up and moved out!

Chip can give the dirtiest looks that I have ever saw. When we went to Kentucky, I drove part of the way and Chip was furious that my husband sat in my seat. My husband got dirty looks all the while I was driving. They are so funny.

Maybe Chip felt that - since YOU were not in that seat - it should be his!

All has been forgiven! Chloe slept with us last night - I didn't try to pet her just let her curl up at the bottom of the bed. Then after a potty break around 2:30a (sort of unusual for her but was needed) she got back in bed and suggled up to me.
This moring she was back on my lap...next time she needs her flea meds OR a bath Hubby will be doing the dirty work (these are now Man Jobs)

Zia has not left my side today. She even barked and whined while I was in the shower. I was away from her for over 24 hours. My dad had cataract surgery yesterday. They overmedicated him with 5 mg of Valuim (one regular strength Tylenol will make him sleep for 24 hours). Anyway, he ended up having to stay the night in the ICU/CCU because they didn't want him to stop breathing (he stopped 3 times at the eye doctor's). He's home and all is well today. I guess since Zia hasn't been away from me for more than 4 hours she is making up for it.
