OMG I got HORRIBLE NEWS!

Well I found out my dog will probably never be a cuddler! I was crushed! She is a dominant dog and generally, dominant dogs aren't cuddlers. She would rather sleep in her crate at night than with me, IN BED!!!! I'm devistated, how will I ever survive!

*The good news is, she is very smart.*

Bummer...I didn't know that dominant dogs are rarely snugglers, that is new one on me. Maybe she will warm upto snuggling, no pun intended! Okay well, maybe just a little!

Zia isn't much of a cuddler either. She is almost 5 months old and just now will sit in my lap and cuddle me at night. She started this about 2 weeks ago. I hope she gets "cuddlier" (is that even a word? LOL) as she gets older. Last night she slept almost on top of my head!

Tuck is just plain independent. Not neseccarily dominant, depends on the situation. But he does cuddle occasionally. All the more precious when he does!

Lulu on the other hand is a spooner. She will curl right up to you. She is very submissive w/other dogs.

Don't worry, it's okay. Rhys is definitely not a cuddler - I was disappointed, but he's very smart and independent. In a way, it's good - because when I got Andy (cuddler extraordinaire ), I still had plenty of room on the bed!

I love them both, regardless!

Holy cow - you scared the heck out of me with the title of your post!!

Riley was a dominant female and although she wasn't a "cuddler" and she slept under the bed, she would sometimes come quietly and sit on me or curl up against me. It made it very special as I know she wasn't a "willy-nilly" cuddler and she had very discriminating taste. Jemma is a "willy-nilly" cuddler, if an axe murder came in, sat down on the sofa with his well honed axe in hand - she'd cuddle him. I love it as I've never had such an affectionate animal, but I loved the sometimes snuggly girl too.

Deb! That's funny! Lulu would do the same thing. Every dog/peson she meets she rolls right over on her back.

ANd I say "Lulu! Have some pride!"

What is your defination of dominant dog?

I disagree. I've own many corgis over the years. The ones that were true alphas were definately cuddlers.

Some dogs are and some aren't. Doesn't have anything to do with them being dominant or alphas.

Hi, Most of ours will snuggle until they get too hot. Then they will spread out beside us. One incentive to snuggle might be that we keep our thermostat at 62 F in the winter. One Border Collie loves to have a pillow, whether it is on the bed, on the floor, or in a chair. I need a little snuggling tonight, since it is suppose to be -13 F.

That is cold. My thermostat is on 73 degrees and tonight I was cold so I jacked it up to 74.

Hi, Yes, we donot get much company with the thermostat set so low, but it helps when we are going outside frequently. We had some rams in the wrong spot this summer and are currently having a few lambs. I just got back in from taking care of a set of twins that was born about 4pm. Temperatures are near zero or below, and we go back and forth checking for ewes that are getting ready to lamb. Hot inside temperatures will almost make me sick when returning from outside. However, we will jack the temperature up, if we have to warm up a wee one so that they will nurse. Have a great and warm night.

Byron is not a cuddler but does sleep with us.

The normal go to bed process.

- Get him to go up the stairs.
- Put him is bed
- Try to get into bed.
- Play/Fight as I get into bed - Growl/Bark/Digging
- He settles out.
- I move my feet under the covers to wind him up - Growl/Bark/Digging
- We both Settle out
- Wife comes to bed.
- Battle for position in be starts - He settle out at the end of the bed between us.

During the night one of us will move and it will be greeted with a low growl at the end of the bed.

We also have cats coming on and off the bed during the night.

It's a wonder we ever get a good night sleeps

My dog was evaluated by professionals where I'm doing her training (along with the other 9 dogs in the class). So my personal definition has NOTHING to do with anything. The ladies LOVE my girl even though she can be difficult. Just don't see many corgis of any sort here.

I swear I said 'generally' not 'all'... Didn't I? Did I miss word my lark?

This post was a bit of a joke in a sense. I love my girl and I'll manage working through the difficult times I'm sure are to come....

AND, her idea of cuddling (with me) is touching me with a toenail or her behind or a foot or ear tip. THAT Is her idea of 'cuddling' with me on the couch.

How old is she ?

Darci when she was younger wasnt at all interested in cuddling, but as she got older she grew to like it more. She will sit with me for a little while sometimes on her back for belly rubs then to the back of the couch she goes like a cat. lol

Now Egan on the other hand is a big time cuddler, always wants to be touching you.
