Case of the "Mines"

Ok...so Haf has been home for nearly 48 hours, and we've already determined that feedings have to be done separately. Come to find out Huw is just plain nasty and aggressive when it comes to food. We did better this morning with one in the kitchen and the other in the front room. I stayed in the kitchen with Huw until they were both done and gave them both love and that was it. I don't know if this will change, but man, I'd never seen Huw so mean!!! I don't want to condone this action by giving in and separating them, but I really don't want to have a major injury. Do other people have this problem?

The other issue we're having right now is Huw is having a case of the "mines." Everything is MINE MINE MINE. If Haf picks up a toy, Huw has to have it. She has her moments when she's a little more aggressive about keeping it, but usually she just gives it up. And then the next toy she goes on to, he comes to take it.

Is this something that's going to pass?? Haf is a pretty feisty girl, and I think as she gets older, she'll be able to stand up for herself more. Am I just expecting too much too early?

B4 Chloe our Emma was one who would only eat when she was hungry. I could put a cup of food down in the morning and she would nibble on it all day or sometimes a day and a half would go by b4 she finished. AFTER Chloe joined the family Emma would wolf down her food and go after Chloe's... but she wasn't food aggressive towards Chloe - just greedy.

So we started feeding them in the same room / same time but several feet apart and made sure Em didn't eat Chloe's. Emma's bowl down first and say her name as I put it down / the call Chloe's name and sit her's down. Little by little as Chloe got older I would move their bowls closer together.

I still call out their name as I sit the bowls down but now they eat within a foot of each other. After they finish their bowl they switch to each other's bowl in case there is a lick left that was missed. Neither ever find any LOL

They have their own bowls that are not the same shape - Em's is heart shaped and Chloe's has cats on her's. The funny thing is I have sat down the bowls a few times b4 The Girls are there and they always go to their own bowl.

So I say don't fret yet - give them a few weeks to work out their issues and they should be fine. Same for the toy issue - once Huw gets used to his little sis and finds out she's fun to play with I don't think you will have trouble...
