Corgi Heights

Just been looking at everyone's photos of their corgis in the gallery. Just one question from this British branch of the corgi family
- Some/many of the US corgis seem to be taller with longer legs than corgis in the UK. Is this true? Cannot obviously really see by looking at photos but this is the impression I have. Can anybody shed light on this?

It's been my experience that you cannot judge a corgis height or weight by pictures or even just by sight in person. You have to measure and weigh them.

Yes, some dogs are leggier, depends on the lines they're from. Many dogs from less than steller breeders in the US (meaning back yard breeders and puppy mills not reputable breeders (who are mostly show breeders), are leggier than what they should be according to the standards.

Also, if they are young or slow maturing dogs they may look leggy until they are mature.

Many Pem Corgis are too leggy to be the 'perfect' Pem in this regard.

Many Pem Corgis are too leggy to be the 'perfect' Pem in this regard. But a leggy Corgi will generally be better for speed and dog sports such as agility.

I must say that in the Wellington Welsh Corgi Walking Club that has now swelled to 30 Corgis, none are in the leggy bracket.

Thanks for the explanation Peggy and Michael. Not seen a leggy corgi here either.

Michael- your compatriot, Regan King was man of the match yesterday as Llanelli completed the pool staged of the Heineken cup unbeaten. Awesome skills!! You're not having him back yet- he is only 25 so plenty of time for him.

Now you Welsh can't have Regan King forever. But what a classic name he has for a world class sportsman.

My wife. Leigh has direct links to Wales. Something like her great great grandfather, David James Evans (born 1861) came to NZ from his birth place, Trefaglwys in Montgomeryshire.
