Oaky... what the heck is this "Frapping" thing?

I'm gathering that it's when corgis zoom around at top speed, making little piglet noises for long amounts of time.

Ada does this - she zooms around her crate, over Ronin, between Ilsa's legs, around her crate again, into the bathroom, over Ronin again, over Ilsa, into the kitchen, around a chair, around her crate again.... it's adorable, but I didn't know there was a corgi-specific term for it!

I've uploaded a video - I've never done it before, so I hope this works...

PS - sorry about the mess, my house it usually is much cleaner. However, when three dogs decide it's playtime... well, the toys get strewn everywhere!

Oh yeah, that was puppy FRAPPING for sure. FRAP stands for either "Frequent Random Acts of Play" or "Frantically Running and Playing" - in this case - definitely the latter. I think she was trying to get your Dobies going!! She's lovely!! Why a Corgi after the Dobies - never mind just saw your other thread!!

You can see a double Corgi FRAPPING video here as my two go at it:

Welcome to you and little Ada! Love your avatar!!!

Jespah - I saw your video before I uploaded mine, and I thought, "hmmmm... Ada does that..."

In Dobermans, it's called "The Zoomies" - they usually get The Zoomies after baths and at random times of the day... but mostly after baths!

Yeah, post bath FRAPPING is pretty common. Mine do it everyday - usually when they come in from outside. Sometimes Jemma does it on her own, sometimes Rupe joins in and then one of our cats will sub for Rupert - that's a hoot. My goal is to get that on video!

Talking We've got a frapper too!

So glad to hear that IT has a name!! FRAPPING! Love it! Macy Fraps too.
She is an absolute nut after her bath. I keep thinking she is going to run full speed into a wall. She has a specific path worked out. After her bath I bundle her up and hand dry her...then once I put her down (which isnt soon enough for her) she is off to the races. Runs to our bedroom and circles whatever she sees on the floor runs back to the other side of the house does a 180 and starts all over again. Its hysterical. Thanks for providing so much insight friends!

I just recently have seen this same thing in Yoda. I was wondering if it was just something ONLY HE DOES, or if all corgi's do this. Glad there is an explanation here. Yoda runs like 90 mph, in full "show off" mode... it's TOTALLY like he's running a horse race or something. I think it's the cutest, funniest thing ever. He does it when he's hyper, and he LOVESSSS doing it! I live in a 1 bedroom, but he has plenty of room to run his marathon. He runs up to 5 times around the perimeter of the coffee table, at ultra lightening speed, practically giving himself rug burn on those paw pads! He runs under all the chairs too!

Sooty fraps too. Runs from the hall into the lounge, turns at the patio doors, kicks off the doors and runs back to the hall. Of course since having a wooden floor put down in place of carpets means he slips and slides everywhere and scatters any toys/shoes/items on the floor to the winds.

Cindy has never done so and just sits looking at Sooty as if he is demented.I think because she was an outside kennel dog when she was with her breeders for 5 years she never got into it. She will often play fight with Sooty but has never joined in the frapping. After 18 months with us I don't think she has any plans to join in.

Oh yes the Frapping is great. Especially after bath time. Montana will run around like crazy and get real low to the ground and rub herself on everything. The walls, doors, clothes, the bed, you name it she rubs on it after a bath. She normally only fraps outside anyother time. She likes for you to act like you are coming to get her and then she will just take of in the yard and run in circles in the yard about 10 times or so and wait for you do it again.

corgilover29, My Dillon does that same outside game...especially in the winter, i have found that if i wrap a scarf around my nose and mouth only leaving my eyes exposed and then stare at him he will start frapping...all over the yard, it is too cute. Dillon also does the after bath frap- we call it AIR DRYING! LOL!

My two dogs do that. It usually starts with Duncan chest bumping Chloe to get her to react. They play fight for a couple of minutes and then THEY"RE OFF!!!!!

I've learn to pick up my feet if I'm in the living room when I hear the first sound of the running. One of them will surely be zipping around the coffee table with the other right on their tail. Then it's through the middle room into the kitchen and back into the living room. At that point, one of them will stop in the living room while the other goes running back toward the kitchen, and when that dog enters the living room again, the one that's been waiting zips towards the kitchen with the other one on their tail. It's exhausting to watch.

After a couple of rounds of this, one of them usually jumps in my lap and pants with the "That was fun!!!!! Join us mom!" expression.
