I would have called poison control as well.. very scarey situation, I will be waiting to hear about how she is feeling this morning.

Emilie
I agree with you Emilie. I know that sometimes, depending on what is ingested, that inducing vomiting can be dangerous, so I did not feel comfortable suggesting that.

You are welcome - I am also surprised that the vet couldn't have helped her more. One would think that a vet's office would have access to that type of information. I also think that is a lot of money $50 to charge. I hope all is well also.

I agree with Emilie on inducing vomitting - it totally depends on the toxin ingested.

Newcorgiowner - is there an emergency vet clinic in your city or town that you could call and ask questions in any kind of an emergency? I have a fridge magnet, on my fridge, with the phone number and address of the nearest 24 hour emergency clinic - so in a panic, I won't have to find it.

I'm so glad everything turned out okay - I had a couple of similar scares with my first Corgi getting into meds - she ate liquid Advil gelcaps at one point.

Hold the phone! Poisen control charges $50????

I too have a refirgerator magnet with emergency vet # and poisen control. I plan to call and find out if they charge and if so, find a service that doesn't.

Thats unacceptable! Suppose your pet were possibly poisened and the family didn't have $50 or a credit card (I'm guessing that's how they take their fee)! Would they (the poisen control line) let the pet be sick or possibly die???? Geez!

That's just wrong. Is this how it works for humans? Imagine a sick child and you get charged for asking a question?????

I'm up in arms! I'm spitting mad! I sound like Tucker.....

I did not mean to suggest using the peroxide without checking with the vet first. That is why I added that I wasn't sure if that would be the case with the Dayquil.

We know you didn't - we just added the comment for people who may not know to check with their vet first.

ZdogZ

Nothing was directed at you - I know you were helping out by suggesting that - I didn't suggest the peroxide initially because I didn't want somebody to try something on my advice without first consulting an expert

Susan,

Go back to the 3rd post - I put the link on where Deb(GlenCorgi) had posted a
poison control number through Kansas Sate University that she said you can call with no charge.

I think this is a great opportunity for everyone here who has read these posts to ask their vet or find out a phone number or even get a printout of what to do for certain types of poisons. I'm sure there are toll free lines that are free in each of our areas.

Dogs are notorious for eating stuff -we could all face this issue at any given time.

And someone call Cesar Milan for Susan - she needs some whisper therapy!!!

Don't worry Deb - Tucker has the number on speed dial.

Deb,

I just talked with my vet regarding my cat so I asked him about a number - there is no free poison control advice # in our area or state. I would first have to call him, but he said he doesn't have the answers to everything that a pet could swallow and would have to refer me to the Poison Control # if need be. I am going to write that one down along with the one Deb provided.

The ASPCA has poisoning info on their site at this url:

http://www.aspca.org/site/PageServer...e=pro_apcc_ask

Here's what they say at the bottom:

If you think your pet has ingested a poisonous substance, you should contact your veterinarian or the APCC’s 24-hour hotline at (888) 426-4435 immediately.

I believe that 888 numbers are toll-free - they are here in Canada.
