I started my search for a puppy!
Sent out an email to a few email addys I found on various websites. Told recipients a little bit about myself, my family, what we were looking for in a puppy and that we were hoping to open a dialogue with many trainers, breeders, handlers etc. to get an idea of what we were in for as well as to be questioned and directed to the breeder best able to suit each of our purposes. I hope to visit a few dog shows locally as well as agility events.
And we understand this to be a long-term process. ![]() Any tips, hints and/or suggestions? Wish us luck!! I hope to hear from some of the contacts in the coming days! I did only send emails to those Pembroke Corgi people that were in WA State. Is that a mistake? Should I broaden my search or see what I find out first and then broaden the search based on results and personal feelings? |

When I was doing the breeder search, I started with the National Pembroke Welsh COrgi organization. I sent in state and nearby MA & CT. Interestingly, several breeders who did not have puppies, suggested names of breeders. So my search expanded.

If you do not find what you are looking for in your area and start looking out of your area let me know. The lady I got my Corgi from has pups fairly regularry as she shows alot and usually has a litter or 2 every several times a year. Great lady to work with and all her dogs are proven in the show ring and are resonable priced. She even has older dogs at times. She may even have one or 2 left from the ones she was thinking about keeping she may sell. Can not speek to that you would need to contact her. If you are interested I e mail me at nrhareiner@hotmail.com and I will get you intouch with her as most poeple think it is wrong to advertise on the net. Too each their own. Just letting you know of a good Pem Corgi breeder. Though you would have to ship.

Or
There might be a couple breeders in Oregon that wouldn't be too far, like me going from Calif to Arizona - same distance as me going to northern Calif!
If I get a cardigan puppy from a farther distance in June, I will have to fly the puppy home as carry on luggage. My husband works for a commuter airline and heard too many horror stories from the baggage handlers. The cargo area is not air conditioned or heated. I was surprised to see no breeders listed in Las Vegas area on the CWCCA breeder directory. Merrie |

Update: I did hear from a few that had puppies, but we aren't ready for a dog NOW, but we are welcome to visit the "crew" and ask any questions we want, address concerns etc.
Peg, Will get you the list of people I contacted tomorrow. Off to bed now and just checking threads quickly.-Gracie |

I think most dogs have fears of Gun fire and thunderstorms. I have several who do and they have never had any of those seperiances. The ones who are not are the ones I have trained to not be over the years. IE my hunting dogs. They did not start out with no fear of these things. It took some work. Some where better and easyer to train then others. Same with my horses. Some who I have trained to be shoot off of have no fear of guns and actually will come runing when they hear it. The others just site there and look at you. No real fear but I would still not just hop on and start shooting.

Here's a story and you can decided for yourself if it has merit:
I attended a lecture by a Vet/behaviorist last fall. She was talking about fearful dogs. SHe said there is high incidence of fear of loud noises with dogs who either flew as puppies or were shipped by truck. The noise and vibrations are the issue. I flew Tucker home in an airplane, carried him on with me in the cabin. He is very fearful of thunder and particularly fireworks. What is most annoying is his desire to chase cars. When I first started leash walking him alongside the road, if a large truck went by, he wanted to chase it. Took awhile but he learned this was no acceptable on our walks. To this day, if he hears a truck coming, he waits in the driveway, then runs the length of the property, never leaving the yard, but still chasing/racing with the trucks. I have a hidden fence and Tuck is very respectful of his boundry, getting the shock is not his idea of fun. So I had him at a border collie rescue event and they had a Pet Psychic. It was for charity so I took Tuck and Lu to the psychic. I asked her what the car chasing was all about. ANd she said .... the trucks make vibrations on the road and it reminds him of a time he was frightened as a pup. She asked me if I had him shipped or had him flown. She said chasing the truck is his way of trying to take control over his fear. Whether it has merit or not, I'm not so sure I would ever fly or ship a puppy again. Lulu came a whole mile or two by car to my home. She doesn't seem to be bothered by loud noises. Unfortunately, monkey see, monkey do. She is now chasing trucks too! She however, doesn't have the same respect for the boundry Tucker does. She has not run thru it, but I don't trust her. So if a truck goes by, Tuck takes off after the truck, Lulu takes off after Tuck, and I take off after Lulu! All three of us chasing trucks!!!! Ughhhhhh
