Corgi sense of time
Ruby, my Cardi, is walked at 6am, 12pm and her last walk for the day is around 8:30 at night. If I am watching tv at 7:30 or so and I move like I am getting up she ignores it, but if I do the same movement at around 8:30 she starts to head for the door. It is funny because sometimes I am just rearranging the way I am sitting and she starts heading for the door, but only around the 8:30 area not in the 7:30 time frame.

In the past my dogs always seemed to know when it was five o'clock am or pm. That was their feeding schedule. My Corgi Duchess tries to wake me before five in the morning but the house cat Powder is very accurate at getting us going at five in the evening. I swear they sometimes seem to stare at the clock when they are in the kitchen.

Now of all those postings so far in this thread, Cindy must take the cake. Her Corgi, Darci tries to set off the alarm in order to create one of her highlights for the day.- when her mom wakes up and acknowledges her - and probably gets up and gives her breakfast or a walk or some such things as well.
In all truthfulness, I try as much as I can to vary almost everything surrounding Taylor - meals, exercising, trips etc etc. It's to create the unexpected, get away from routine and an attempt to make his life more interesting and cliff-hanging. Some people say that their dogs like routines - the same things at the same times day after day. I think it is people not dogs who can't seem to escape from routine - and they use there dogs as an excuse. Dogs are quite adaptable and will be your alarm clock and diary notice if you allow this to happen. Taylor tells me when it is time for his daily biscuit. And when he knows I am out of my night time slumber, he extends himself up from the floor and gives me a couple of kisses. Last edited by Michael Romanos; 03-26-2006 at 12:42 AM. |

*~* Taylor is a lucky doggie to have an owner like you !! I stick to a pretty monotamous routine...daily. I was a stay-home mother for many years...and I have just accepted a part-time job at Cox South Learning Center (hospital daycare center). Even with a part-time job...I feel guilty for time spent away from Midnight & Sunshine. ** Just like for my children...I want to do what is BEST for my Canine daughters !! The BEST food...the BEST grooming...etc. *~* Nikki

I also have no regular routine for Sassy as I am a medical transcriptionist and work all hours of the night or day, so her routine is as varied as mine but she knows to just nudge my hand on the keyboard and I will stop working and come and play or get her a carrot, whatever she indicates she wants, whether she stands by the frig for a carrot, the treat cabinet for a rawhide, or her toy box to play.

Carrots are wonderful treats for dogs - especially baby carrots - those very thin spindley carrots with the tops still intact., the kind that rabbits just love too.
Talk abouit routine - what Corgi is not thrilled and excited with a holiday - especially at a home away from home with his love ones. I'm taking my family with me to a tourist resort called Taupo - which boasts a huge fresh water lake and thermal activity - later this month for four/five days. And won't Taylor just love it. Taupo is a 200 mile journey one way and I've rented a house overlooking a lake side bay. One of the attractions for us at Taupo this time round, is a five day Canine extravaganza - Conformation championship shows (4), agility (on all of the five days), flyagility, obedience and dog dancing all at the one venue. Taylor is entered in only four agility events and I'll also be spending a little time selling my book, Amazing Dog Stories from one of the stalls. But I'm promising myself that I'll not be devoting too much of my time to the dog meetings. Too much else to enjoy. |

Yep, Peanut is good at telling time, though there is only one time he has become accustomed to, 9:00 PM. Every night since he was a pup, 9 was his bed time out and when he still felt it was necessary to protect us, he went off duty after that out.
