Heartbreakingly wonderful

This is a rescue story. Nick was adopted at age 2 because of neglect and because the parents were incarcerated. His adoptive parents divorced when Nick was 8. His mother was so bitter and vicious that she used her children as emotional weapons against their father. But she didn't take him to school reliably and chose to ignore all the signs that he had emotional problems and learning disabilities. At age 12 he was stealing cars and was caught trying to vandalize a vehicle. His dad and his new stepmom (me) spent lots of money to gain split custody and get psychiatric and medical help for him. It took years to turn him around. And we're not all the way there yet.

Nick is a big 6'2" 185 pound kid with a soft heart. I got him a little cat but his grandmother ran over it in the driveway (a long story). His rabbit was killed by a dog at his irresponsible mother's house. My cats are too nervous about this gangly boy in a man's body. But the one who loves him unconditionally and who runs to him and leaps all over him and can play as ruff as he wants and keep on coming is my little 14 month old rescue corgi dog Liam. I was watching my stepson hold the little dog while they watched tv last night and it was a heartbreakingly beautiful thing to see that little dog and that big boy curled up together.

To paraphrase Bonnie, a corgi on my stepson's feet I am truly blessed.

Sounds like Nick had a rough start in life. He's really lucky to have you, his dad, and Liam in his life.

There is absolutely nothing in this world like the healing power of unconditional love given so freely from a little corgi. I think that is why God put them on this earth is to help many through their trials and tribulations. Remember dog spelled backwards is god and God will never leave you or forsake you.

Ok end of sermon - I am going to go hug my chipmunks.

I think it's a proven fact the power of unconditional love of animals has on people. I am pretty much alone in the world and I don't know how I would come home day after day without my gang being so happy to have me home. I have 5 cats and 2 Corgis. For some of us, there just is a bond that can't be described or traded for anything.

I think it's wonderful that Nick has a friend in Liam and Liam in him. Sometimes these bonds with people who really need them make all the difference in their lives. Good thing Liam's a Corgi - he's got the ears to be able to "listen" to Nick.

How touching a story.

I am always amazed how a dog just knows which person really needs the love and acceptance and runs up to them with no fear ignoring their owners command to return. It doesn't matter if the teenager has pierced nose or dressed odd. And to see that teenager smile gives me comfort that the child had one good moment in their disruptive home life day.

For me it was the wild bunny like jack russell that ran to my door the day after my Pepper died and waited for me to open and give her a petting. She never had run on my deck before that day (as my dog chased her). She knew I needed to give a petting. I explained to her owner about my dog passing the day before.

I dont have much more to add, but the story has touched me, I find it wonderful how healing animals can be on the human soul. Nick has found a good friend in Liam, I can certainly appreciate that special bond. I wanted to also add that I, too, look forward to reading your posts, you have a very positive outlook, give good solid advice and your story is certainly uplifting.
