Oscar Corgis

Did you see the Oscars show last night? In the costume design ensemble they had a Corgi with the "Queen" costumes. And the clip of the movie showed her telling her dogs to stay. And they were all so cute.

I loved seeing it but cringed inside because whenever a breed gets showcased in movies they start becoming more popular - witness Lassie destroyed collies, 101 Dalmations took a disastrous breeed (temperaments, eyes, skin issues) and made it worse, Rin Tin Tin destroyed GSDs, etc. (I am probably dating myself since I remember RTT!)

So Corgi lovers be vigilant! Don't promote them to just anyone. Liam and I are always a big hit in Petsmart because people just just at how CUTE he is. But if they seriously ask me about corgis, I try to tell them they aren't for everyone. They are high energy, can be destructive, very intelligent, need attention, time, effort. And they shed - even tight coated Liam drops hair like a big dog. And they bark. And I tell anyone that will listen that I got him from rescue so they really have to want one to get one after I talk to them.

Yep, I saw it too. I was in the kitchen making dinner when they began showcasing the costume design nominees. When they got to "The Queen" I started juming up and down yelling "Look, look!! Corgi, corgi!!"

Cool

Miller loved the corgi's on the oscars ... He noticed them first and started barking at them. When I came over to look he was wiggling like a silly pup. He loves watching shows with dogs in them.

It is nice to see the Corgi's on TV. The nice thing about the movie the Queen is that it does not appeal to children and hopefully the corgis will not be over breed. The other shows and movies mentioned above are all Family programs. But they are so darn cute! First time I saw Molsen I had to have him. The reading and learning about Corgi's come later...

I didn't see the Corgis (I don't like watching the Oscars). Does anyone know of any still pics from the show (of the Corgis, of course)?

And I agree about not being an overenthusiastic promoter - I always tell people both the good and the bad whenever they ask. I always stress that Corgis are usually not good for a first-time dog owner or someone who has no interest in training.

Unfortunately, 30 minutes into the Oscars, our cable went out!! We scarcely ever watch TV and we had made a special point of tuning in the Oscars - we were soooo annoyed when we lost the show! Then our daughter called to see if we were seeing the Corgi on-stage...well, I was just beside myself!! I am so disappointed to have missed the Corgi!!

Unfortunately, it is too late for that.

Helen Mirren was on Breakfast tv here last week and she said how she fell in love with the corgis. They were just ordinary corgis brought in for the film, not according to her, especially trained. She said they were adorable.

My Tucker's dumb as a box of rocks. But still very lovable of course! Not all Corgis are intelligent.

Maybe not "movie trained," but they are obedience trained and do trial competitively.

I can honestly say I tell people the truth. The great majority of Corgis don't have a bad side so there is only good things to say about them. They are easily trained. They are easily groomed. They are easy to handle. They are not a two ton truck. They are not picky eaters. They can be owned by little old ladies and handled by small children. Ther is not much that can go wrong with them genitically.

If winning the Oscar is going to increase interest in Corgis, well and good.
There was an Indian (Asian-Indian) family not long out of India, very excited about Taylor last Saturday and I gave them ny contact details after asking them will a Corgi they might own be inside or outside their house, have they got a fully fenced property and one or two other simple questions. Their initial responses seems good enough for me. The woman of the family wanted to know why Taylor didn't have perfectly white teeth. A good question I thought.

Debi: funny! I had the same reaction. I was jumping up and down and pointing to the TV screen and yelling,"CORGI!" I noticed he had his bunny butt to the audience and got some giggles. Corgis are comical without even trying. Love that. Can't wait to rent the movie!
