I totally agree with whoever said that the "lines don't make the dog" - my dobe Ilsa was sired by a beautiful dog in the Top Twenty, multi BISS, multi BIS, Award of Merit at the Nat'l Specialty... but Ilsa is spayed. Pet quality, no sense breeding her (not like I wanted to breed her anyway!)

When I pick an animal for my breeding program weither is be dog or other I look at the bloodlines. I want to see earners and producers top and bottom and especially tail line.
Then I take that animal and train and show it in the area in which I breed for. If the have the breeding conformation temperment to handle the training and then prove they are worthy of breeding then I will consider breeding that animal. Now once I have done all that then starts the real work. There is so much to consider when planing a breeding. Just crossing 2 animals who are of the same breed does not work. Some lines cross better then others. Some line work better in a conformation type event where others will work better in a performance type event. These are just a few things that must be taken into consideration when you deside to breed. Picking the correct cross will up your chances of geting what you want and what will be marketable. Heidi |
