Even if a dog has a top winning sire that doesn't mean the offsrping should be bred. Lots of pets have "champion" lines. And also, there are champions out there that shouldn't be reproducing either. Peggy

Has he actually seen the sire or was he just impressed that he was a Champion? Peggy

I do not know if he has seen him. The sire was the one he told me about...
Wouldn't you be impressed if you had a female and her sire was from a good blood line like this....

I have dogs sired by great sires. My Lacy is sired by Ch. Nebriowa Front and Center. He is also a top producing sire. Morgan is sired by Ch. Carolee's Mr. Postman.
My first female corgi was sired by Ch. Festiniog's Toby Two. Her daughter had a litter sired by Ch. Sea Master's Tigue. That was one of his first litters. He went on to win a National speciality. My second litter was sired by Ch. Larklains Redd Dandy. Dandy is one of the all time top producing sires and is in many, many US Pembroke pedigrees. I have known, and bred to great sires all along. And remember that those of us who breed prove our puppies in the show ring. Morgan is 2 wins from his Championship, as is Lacy. And Lacy has 5 Best of Breed wins and 2 Group Fourths. She's won those from the classes over champions. You can see pictures of Lacy at Lacy in the Group Ring pictures from dogs photos on webshots Peggy

OK, It is ok to be really excited that your dog has some amazing champions in their lines, but that is not a reason to breed... you didnt say if you were excited becuase you found the father and he is a really amazing dog of if there is the implication that becuase her father is a champion and therefore this would be fuel for the fire to breed her. I get excited to research my dog's lines, I get excited when i see that Dillon's Grandfather was at westminster this year (Ch. Aberlee storm force) Not every dog should be bred regardless if they come from a long line of champions... Dillon's lines are FULL of top dogs- his mother is a champion, his grandfather on both sides are well known and there are some of the top ROMX in his lines... With Gus, his lines are just as impressive and he was a show dog- his father was a champion as well, and sired quite a few litters, and it has now been shown that he was a carrier of an autoimmune disorder passed on to some of his puppies- including Gus...when this was discovered he was neutered and is a pet now, but still the damage was done, how many of his offspring are out there with this condition? Gus is one...didn't show up until he was nearly 2 yrs old... this is not something they could have tested for either...more food for thought

It occurred to me that most reputable breeders use championship stock? I can brag that Duchess had a champ sire, Ch SIPPIWISSET STORM TRYS'L
Her mom was SIPPIWISSET SEA CHIMES. No titles listed for mom. Doesn't that mean that we all or nearly all have champs in our dog's bloodlines? |

Well My Chip and Dale do not have any champion bloodlines in their lineage from the research that I have done but champion bloodlines don't impress me much. (sorry I don't mean this to insult anyone) As Emilie just mentioned even champions can be carriers of something and it shows up in future litters if they are bred. Some people breed their dogs simply because they have a CH in front of the pedigree when in reality they never should be bred in the first place - it seems the same as some hobby breeders to me. The most important thing is to breed for the right reasons - not to make money or just to get puppies or to appease a previous owner of a dog. A good way to learn about breeding puppies is to sit quietly and watch a first time corgi in labor and delivery or observe a C section.
