Hi, We just use the regular plastic type dog crate with metal door. We get them large enough so they can stretch out, but not so large that they donot retain heat. We cover the door in the winter. Ours are kenneled at night in a three season room with an electric heater running in the dead of winter. We also keep our house at 62 F and feel that helps both us and the dogs adjust to outside temperatures more easily.

A vari kennel 200 size works for most Pembrokes.

I prefer the vari kennels. A dog should never be left unattended in a soft sided crate. Too many have chewed through them and escaped and gotten into trouble.

Some just like to sleep under things.

Chip & Dale both have soft sided crates. The crates work very well for traveling as it is collapsible. I also keep it set up in the house for when they want quiet time. The door is always open so they can go in and out as they please. Chip & Dale both like to sleep on top of it. I used the small one for Dale when I took him for his surgery and it is easily carried with the pup in it and the vet kept Dale in the crate before and after his surgery without any problems. I do not enclose my boys in the crate that often but I have not had a problem with them chewing the crate but it is a great possibility with a dog that is left in a softsided crate for extended periods of time alone to chew their way out of it and get into mischief.

I mentioned it because I have heard stories about dogs eating holes in them, unzippig them or even "hamster" rolling them to someplace else.

I have some too, I use mine in hotel rooms when I go to shows.

That would be my concern if I had to leave them in a hotel room unsupervised in their crates for any length of time. Not sure how I would handle that situation yet but I may soon find out if we have to go to Nashville for three days. Although they probably still wouldn't be left alone for more than a couple of hours at a time - still enough time for mischief. Have you ever left your dogs in a hotel room without being crated? I worry that a maid would let them out.

Thank you

We will be going to my parents for the weekend if weather is any better and I need to get one so she is not wandering around at night.. We have a small car VIBE and with the 3 girls and stuff the crate can't be too big that is why I was thinking about the soft side Wal-Mart has some but I do not know how good those would be but I only need it for trips.

I have a Midwest brand Life Stages wire crate - the dimensions are 30L x 21w
x 24H. This has worked well for him and he only uses it at nighttime. He has a very comfy fleece pad in there. I also want to get a soft crate that folds down easily for overnight visits to Grandmas house.

I don't usually leave them in hotel rooms, I meant when we're there. At night, sleeping. They sleep in crates in hotel rooms usually.

No, I don't. In fact like you I'd worry that someone would let them out.

In fact many hotels reqire that they be crated if you leave them while you're gone.

If you have a small car(like a Toyota Corolla) instead of an SUV or larger car, is it considered safe to let your Corgi ride either in the front or back seat with some restraining devise since the back seat of a Corolla is not very big and may not be large enough for a crate. Something on the order of a harness like a seat belt you would wear.

In the back seat yes, several people use the seat belts. In the front seat, they say no due to the air bags.

I had seen a harness type device at Pet Smart last Saturday that looked comfortable enough and safe enough for travel and was just curious if anyone used anything like that. Perhaps a crate would be more comfortable for them on a long drive but, with the harness type, they could see more on the trip.

Peggy - Uncle Jim may have to have major heart surgery in Nashville and if he does, we will be taking him and staying about 3 days. I have to take my boys so they would need to stay in a hotel room for a little while by themselves each day. Just have to figure out the safest way to handle that situation if it does arise. At the present time, there is no way they can stay with either of my daughters. (new puppies and long explanations)

I bought my softsided crates at Walmart and if they are the same ones, they are very strong crates. I put the larger of the two in the back seat of my Taurus without any problem but there is only room for one passenger in the back.

If they aren't chewers and sleep when in crates they might be ok. However, for a puppy you might want a plastic crate. And a puppy could use one a bit smaller. Also you might put plastic or a sheet (from home) under the crates, some do in case of spills.

I would definately crate them so someone, like a maid doesn't accidently let them out. In fact I'd put the do not disturb sign on the door and go get towels from the front desk if I needed them. Someone in the room they don't know might upset them.
