Hello and what time does your Corgi wake up?

I was told, that if a dog is more intelligent the eariler they get up. Thank goodness this will not be a problem with me. I am always up earily, because I have to get ready for school. Anyways, atleast this is what I was told.

Corgis sleep? LOL!! Zia goes to bed when I do, usually 10 or so. My hubby is usually up between 4:30-5:00 and lets Zip and Zia out then. Then she gets back in bed with me until around 6:00. On the weekends, Zia DOES NOT sleep in. She usually barks and whines until I get up. Usually between 6:30 and 7. Zip, on the other hand, will stay in bed as long as someone is in the bed. Luckily, we have a doggie door so they can go outside when they want to.

I spent 5 years caring for a diabetic cat before she went to the rainbow bridge in December, and that meant that i always had to be on time with insulin shots, 6am and 6pm...so my body was well trained to be up ( with no alarm clock) no later than 6am every single day, so when we got Dillon he was used to getting up when i did for misty ( the kitty). It became a hard and fast schedule... I rarely sleep in ( my idea of a sleep in is 6:30 or once 7am!) so the dogs are always getting up between 6am and 6:30 daily and they go to bed when i do- 10pm - so they get the nightly last call and they hold it until morning. We have only two times since we got Dillon where a middle of the night tinkle was necessary- both times due to the steriod for his allergies ( which he has not had to take for months now ).

When Gus first came - his first two mornings he was getting antsy by 5am but by day 4 he understood the new schedule and is cool with sleeping in until 6 or 6:30...

There's me thinking yesterday when I read this thread that I was lucky that my two on a weekend let me sleep in and in the week get up at 7- quite a civilised hour compared to some here- and then Cindy got me up at 5 this morning to go outside. I think she has been reading this board.

No, I don't think so. I think it's more to do with the routein they learn. When a dog gets up has nothing to do with thier intelligence.

Reba (13 yrs old) sleeps in her basket next to the bed and just lays there quietly until I get up. Jesse (1 yr old) stays quietly in his crate until I get up. Mostly I get up around 7 a.m. but if I sleep til 8, they'll wait patiently and quietly. Though if Jesse really needs to pee he will give a woof to wake me up.

I am a grad student, so I keep weird hours. They go to bed/get up when I do. Sometimes I will stir in the mornings around 7 a.m. or so (when I don't need to get up until 830 or 9) and they will get up on the bed & snuggle. But if I don't get up, they just go back to sleep with me.

Some mornings I have to get up at 5, though, and they like to go back to bed.

They always get a right-before-bed peepee opportunity, regardless of what time I go to bed.

I am having the same problem with Molsen and Miller. They just will not sleep past 5:30 am. The bad part is Molsen does not have to go to the bathroom, he just wants to eat .... He has now taken to bouncing off the bed and howling until someone moves. It used to be Miller who just had to go potty, but Molsen is getting ornary in his old age!

Ah memories. I swear the older our dog got, the more bossier she tried to be. I had to be strict like she was a youngster and remind her she wasn't boss (telling her to wait for food time). But you know your dog to know whether it is ornary vs need and it was ornary until there was physical problems. Still I enjoyed the senior stage because of the personality quirks made up for the less play time. They are such smart dogs.

Unless they are sick, both my dogs go to bed when I do, and sleep until I wake up. >^^;<

Gromit wakes me up by "whispering" - he speaks very softly, basically just the sound of air coming out of his mouth, like "vhoo" at the side of my bed.

He had a little spell of getting me up at 2:30 am, persistently "vhooing" at me. One time I ignored him for too long and he had an accident. I learned to take him seriously from then on.

The spell ended after a couple weeks and he went back to the 5:30 routine. Not sure what it was all about, except that we started him on vitamins and a new food. Wonder if the change in diet could have caused it.
