TV watching Dogs - 03-09-2007, 08:42 AM

Does anyone else have a corgi or corgi mix that loves to watch TV? My chorgi (chow/corgi) has literally become a floor potato since we gotten a HD TV.

I'd catch her before occasionally looking at the TV if there was something with puppies crying and dog or wolves barking and howling. But, the last month or so, she has actually been sitting in front of the TV watching basketball and tennis. We've come to realize that any Star Wars movie, she loves (I think it's because of the little robot, R2D2, that makes all those whistling sounds). And Top Gun is another favorite. My husband had it on one night, she jumped off the couch, ran to into front of the TV and he said she never took her eyes off of it the whole time.

Ha, yes Trevor likes to watch TV, too. Still mainly other dogs (dog shows, stuff on Animal Planet) but if a nature show comes on one of the HD channels, he will really sit up and notice!

Haven't put in one of the Star Wars DVD's for a long time, so I don't know if he'd like R2D2 or not. He doesn't like really loud noises, though, so I bet the blasts coming from the subwoofer would alarm him.

Tucker could care less about TV but Lulu does occasionally pay attention to it. Sounds of dogs, children, laughing make her give the old head bob!

Of the two corgis, Jesse watches t.v., especially the Animal Planet. Even if the sound is off, he'll stare at it. Reba has never shown any interest in the t.v., even if a dog barks on it, she could care less. By the way, Trevor from DCOLE above is Jesse's brother and they both like t.v., so it makes you wonder if the sire and dam were t.v. watchers. Can being a "couch potato" be inherited? Gosh, I hope not.

My girl loves to watch sports!!! Especially golf. I guess it is all the movement that catches her eye. My husband thinks it is the coolest thing! They watch golf together.

Jackie is an occasional tv watcher - mostly things with dogs or other animals. Instead of being more interested since we got our new HDTV, she is afraid of it, namely the beeps it makes when turning on & off. We don't call her Wackie Jackie for nothing! She is also not a fan of the subwoofer Debi.

ps - Katherine - it's nice that your husband has someone to watch golf with - better her than you!

Here is a link to see my in-laws' Havanese, Molly, watching some animals on AFV last summer at the lake. Zip and Zia don't care for the TV.

It's not available, Kristi. This is what showed up...maybe it's too old and they don't keep them long.

The video you have requested is not available.

Of my three Cardis, Zoey is the only TV watcher. Here is a photo of her watching her Cardi buddy "Mouse" on our television:

Not only does Zoey recognize other dogs on TV, she also recognizes them in print. I have a Cardigan Corgi calendar in my office at work and every month when I flip the page to reveal a new Cardi, she barks and puffs up at it for several minutes...

Sassy likes watching television with my husband. She likes animal planet, discovery channael and westerns, but she can't sit still to watch an entire show. She will either roll over on her back and go to sleep watching it or get on the couch with my husband and sleep and watch. It is quite funny though watching her.
