Govt Agencies

Some Go Corgi members are not as quick witted as their Corgis. That is not to say that any Go Corgi members are slow.

It seems there is a need to clarify the remarks about Government Agencies on a thread which has some focus on AAFCO. So I'll attempt this in offering the following (it goes something like this):

One of our character members was slinging off rather naively in saying that AAFCO was a Government Agency (meaning that it was a 'baddy' or substandard). I said if AAFCO is a Government Agency so what. And I then said the USA Armed Forces are a Government Agency too ( meaning that not all Governmemt Agencies are 'baddies' or substandard)

I don't actually believe Governments and their agencies are all bad or all good but in the text to the posting I made, there was no direct criticism from me or inference if bias one way or the other.

I make no apologies for the comparison I made. It is legitimate within the context of the response I had posted.

I am well aware that AAFCO is not Government controlled. But that is not the point.

Michael:

We Americans are very touchy about any mention of our Armed Forces and men and women fighting overseas for our country. We have gotten so much criticism from around the world that any statements referring to our USA Armed Forces that is not made completely clear is taken as an insult. We cannot fight beside them but we can defend them while they are fighting for us and defend them we will. I am sure it is hard for other countries to understand that we will bicker among ourselves, however, when you mess with one of our own, we will stand united and fight back and we will protect what is ours. It is twice as hard when one has a loved one over in Iraq or Afghanistan fighting for other people's rights. An apology in this instance might be worthwhile.

Hi,

I don't know if anyone uses the Pro Heart 6, but just in case, I thought this was important .

AAFCO Standards

The following article was posted on the fluffycorgi site in yahoo. I'm sure this company meets AAFCO standards!

Pet food maker announces major recall By ANDREW BRIDGES, Associated Press Writer1 hour, 25 minutes ago

A major manufacturer of dog and cat food sold under Wal-Mart, Safeway, Kroger and other store brands recalled 60 million containers of wet pet food Friday after reports of kidney failure and deaths.
An unknown number of cats and dogs suffered kidney failure and about 10 died after eating the affected pet food, Menu Foods said in announcing the North American recall. Product testing has not revealed a link explaining the reported cases of illness and death, the company said.
"At this juncture, we're not 100 percent sure what's happened," said Paul Henderson, the company's president and chief executive officer.
The recall covers the company's "cuts and gravy" style food, which consists of chunks of meat in gravy, sold in cans and small foil pouches between Dec. 3 and March 6. The pet food was sold by stores operated by the Kroger Company, Safeway Inc., Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and PetSmart Inc., among others, Henderson said.
Menu Foods did not immediately provide a full list of brand names and lot numbers covered by the recall, saying they would be posted on its Web site — http://www.menufood s.com/recall — early Saturday. Consumers with questions can call (800) 551-7392.
The company said it manufacturers for 17 of the top 20 North American retailers. It is also a contract manufacturer for the top branded pet food companies. Its three U.S. and one Canadian factory produce more than 1 billion containers of wet pet food a year. The recall covers pet food made at company plants in Emporia, Kan., and Pennsauken, N.J., Henderson said.
Henderson said the company received an undisclosed number of owner complaints of vomiting and kidney failure in dogs and cats after they had been fed its products. It has tested its products but not found a cause for the sickness.
"To date, the tests have not indicated any problems with the product," Henderson said.
The company alerted the Food and Drug Administration, which already has inspectors in one of the two plants, Henderson said. The FDA was working to nail down brand names covered by the recall, agency spokesman Mike Herndon said.
Menu Foods is majority owned by the Menu Foods Income Fund, based in Ontario, Canada.

Thank you for clarifying.

I was pretty certain the comment was not meant to cause offense to anyone. The patriotic culture the US people have, combined with the high political sensitivity about the troops at the moment is extremely touchy and someone from another country might not be aware of the tense political climate here at this time and what a comment about the military might make others feel.

Well, that sure seems to be what you are implying.

I wasn't slingling anything. However, I did think they were a government agency. I appear to be mistaken, although from their home page it sure sounds like a government agency. I appologise for my mistake.

And yet you said:

"If AAFCO is a Government agency so what?????"

"By the way, the USA armed forces are a Government agency too."

Which sure sounds like you also thought they were/are a government agency too.

IMO this thread should be listed under lounge. But that would make me disagree with the decision of the moderator to put it under general Corgi discussions.
