Anyone here have other dog breeds?

no no , I didnt say Rotties were fighting dogs, they get an undeserved bad reputation but they are guardian dogs. I love the rotties personally. I also love the Bull mastiff, that was a breed my husband really liked a lot and if it werent for the drool he might have gotten one. The other thing was that they are not as easily trained as a corgi, which was a huge factor to me ( as i am the primary trainer, feeder, walker, etc..) I still love their faces!

I am doing everything I personally can do, to socialize my girl with BIG dogs. In her puppy classes (yes she's not spoiled I have her in 2) there is, an anatolian shep, a german shep, a newfie, a couple goldens and a wiemeraner (I'm sorry if I misspelled any breed). In her other class, there are 3 english mastiffs, 2 large mix shep. breeds and a pitbull. She gets along with them all and has a particular fondness for the anatolian (she rolls over and pees every time she gets close to him, I think she has a little crush, and the noise she makes, I have NEVER heard before!).

All I can do is what I can do, and I am a good doggy mom. Someone will see it and I will qualify with someone. I know I'll get my dog, it's just THAT was not my dog.

I agree with many of the others thoughts...keep looking. In regards to what Michael had stated about Corgis getting along with other dogs their own size best, I slightly disagree. Ponzo goes to dog daycare and everytime I go to pick him up, out he trots from the big dog room. People tend to look at me like I'm crazy and say things like, "My dog is much too big for yours." I always tell them, "Not for this dog, It's the bigger the better for him!" He adores being swatted at by huge dogs...Loves especially English Mastiffs, Great Danes, Dobermans and this Presa Canario (I was a tad nervous about that one, but I let the anxiety go so the dog introduction would go fine, and it did). I think it depends on your dog's style of play, If your dog is having nothing but a wonderful time playing with large dogs, it will be fine. Keep looking and don't let other's reservations about another breed or corgis hold you back, you know what you and your dog can handle.

Good attitude. Also please do keep in mind that "your" dog (the Mastiff) may not show up until you've paid some dues with Sophie. That's just the way of most of the dog world.

Just to throw in my 0.02; like Little Ponzo, my Trevor loves to run with the big dogs. In fact, he kind of poo-poos dogs his own size or smaller (althought he DID have a blast at this month's Corgi Meetup!)

Keep looking, you will find the right dog to fit into your family.

I'm even toying with the thought of a rescue so I don't have to do puppy duty again so soon!

*I'm going to start paying shortly, I've been talking to the local eye vet about a check for my girl. Fortunately, it's a relatively inexpensive test and won't have to be re-done unless I decide to breed her (FAT CHANCE). My vet is supposed to call me back about getting the vwd test done as well, not quite as cost friendly as the first test either. Let the fun begin!*

That is definitely a route to go. Depending upon your aspirations, this would give you step up.

Well that's just a minute part of paying one's dues. You're just getting started and $ and cent signs are rarely a part of the ones that prove most "expensive."

I "grew my own" Goldens for years and did rescue for years. When I went Corgi, I got a rescue. He was 8 months old and I've had him for 8 months now. He's got the most crooked front legs and a weird topline and (oops wait I have to rescue Star Wars Action Figures...) okay, and he has a wide white stripe down his face and hmm... what else. He's the most wonderful, funny, goofy, silly, sheep-crazy, want-to-please-you, happy, smile-making, beloved little dog. I love this little dog immensely. Rescue is wonderful.

No puppy duty (or "doody" may be more appropriate) is a really good reason to adopt and rescue.

Sounds like you are keeping everything in good perspective Pam. Hopefully it will pay off. Jackie likes to run with the big dogs also. She's a little too exhuberant for the little ones.
