Yay! I get to go see a reputable breeder tomorrow!! - 03-23-2007, 05:36 PM

Hey all!

My forum messages are telling me it's time to post again! So this is as good as any!

I am going up tomorrow to visit a reputable breeder and her "crew"! I am taking my husband and daughter to see how we all do around puppies and dogs, see how they all play together, mesh and make sure we are making a good "forever home" decision.

Of all the breeders I contacted, this lady has emailed me multiple times, does very thorough testing, is out for the betterment of the breed and... dog gone it! She's just the nicest lady I've spoken to in a long time! I am so excited to meet her and find out more!

I am so nervous and excited! Wish me luck! We wont be getting a puppy tomorrow I know, but ... I know this is kind of the first step, an interview for both breeder and forever home.

Questions I should ask? I have quite the list so far. But her website is very informative and straight forward, so at this point it's a matter of questions related to home life, our yard, temperment etc.

Congrats Mrs. Grace, that is an exciting step.. I am glad that you have found someone nice who is reputable. Going to meet the dogs and the breeder is a great thing to do - especially before you are going there to get a puppy. This way you can interview her as much as she will be interviewing you, you will have a chance to see her dogs up close and personal, which is great to get an idea of the kind of temperment you can expect from puppies from her dogs, you can see her facilities - i think this is important, are the dogs kept in outside kennels or crated constantly or are they house dogs , do things look clean and are the conditions good, you get the idea.) . I personally think you learn a lot by visiting a breeder and the dogs. Wishing you a lot of luck.

So happy for you. I hope it goes well.

It is such a relief to decide on a breeder and get their approval to be an owner. We did ours through email because of the distance between. Took a lot of time writing my intro letter, but worth it.

I got the good news the litter in AZ is expected April 12. The female is great solid body and eyes like my last dog. I looked at the line of the male and the litter truly can be any color. We will be gone until the 15th so I won't be able to post news until after then of litter results. It is the 4 week mark that I'll want photos to see the colors that do arrive.

There are a couple other beauties being bred in April and or June in AZ for you interested cardigan owner desirees from the great breeders there.

Glad you found this breeder even though you missed out on the show. I ordered the newsletter from the group down here and it was great to see the winners on the January show I missed.

Just had to post my good news as this was a "good news" thread.

One question you might ask is what other breeders does this one work with. By seeing the lineage of the parents you get an idea too. The breeder I'm using is good friends with a very long standing breeder who I have a lot of respect for and would have gotten my puppy from, but the timing was not right.

I'm so glad you get to see the dogs in person. I can see your family leaving the home with big grins and sighs. Have fun!

/rant on

The gal flaked. I guess she is in the middle of moving, but said to call her when I got up to her area today. We got up there around 12pm, called... no reply. <note: it is a 2 hour drive there and 2 hrs back... in the car, with a not quite 2yr old> Called a few times, left messages and various phone numbers where we could be reached. /end rant

Finally, we had to catch a 4:30p ferry to get back home. Still no word.

Seriously, I am... dissappointed to say the least. This gal has been overly helpful and nice over the phone and via email. She is obviously passionate about her crew and has several champions. She says her house is a big "kennel" and her dogs are family, so they are indoors with she and her husband.

Sent her a short email, letting her know we were up in the area, sorry we missed her and hope to hear from her soon.

She has just been so good about email and calling, that I'm kind of worried that maybe something happened to her or her family??

I'll keep ya'll posted..... the hunt continues....

Somebody help me find the right puppy!!

Too many emotes?

I am so sorry to hear this; I was expecting an exciting story back from you.

She was expecting that you would arrive at a certain time, right?

I am surprised she did not call you if something did happen to let you know;I can't understand your disappointment.

heh... you can't understand my dissappointment eh?

Yes, she said she should be available today, that 2pm sounded perfect and she would talk to me tomorrow (Saturday). It's not a completely wasted trip as we saw my husbands grandparents while we were up there and were able to help them and visit for a few hours.

But to not even call... it just seems so weird. I seriously hope she's okay, and once I'm sure she is... THEN I'll rant away. Just joshing.

The hardest part of all?

Telling this cute little face that no, we can't go see the doggies today. It was practically the first words out of her mouth this morning.

Sorry Mrs. Grace,

I meant to say "I can understand" typo error

That is quite strange that she did not answer and you still have not heard from her?

Your daughter is adorable!

We also empathize with you. Such a disappointment==and you really don't know whether to be worried or angry. Do you know any one who knows her that can fill you in on the situation? Another breeder or the local corgi club?
Please keep us informed, we're pulling for you!

Oh my gosh, I am so sorry mrs grace... I would have been so very disappointed too... and upset that i had spent all that time driving back and forth.. I think even if something happened, the responsible thing to do would be to call you to let you know something happened, even if you had already left, at least you could have come home to a message ( not that that would have been much better...grrr) your daughter is so cute, i bet she was sooo disappointed...

I would contact a few other breeders as well and go see them , intervew them, and wait to see what this first one says , maybe there was a serious emergency or maybe as you said in your first post she just flaked out on you, which sucks eitherway..

So sorry....

Emilie

Just heard from the breeder via email.

Her reply, "Hi,

Sorry I missed you yesterday! But unfortunately my husband had made plans for the day that included me. As a rule I'm pretty easy to schedule a get-together with, though, so next time you think you'll be heading to <blank> give me a bit of a heads up & I'll do what I can to ensure I'm home so you can meet the gang."

Wish she would have called, as that was our primary reason for going up there...

Looking at other breeders in the area now. Dissappointed, but moving on! Happy puppy vibes would be most appreciated!

Oh, and I did edit names and places out of respect to the breeder. Nice gal, didn't want it to be obvious who/where she was.
