![]() *sigh* Kongs... I miss making those up nightly and throwing them (usually) in the freezer. My dogs loved it when I'd fill the middle with carrot shavings, apple pieces and then plug up the ends with peanut butter and freeze them. Sometimes for a treat, I'd put in little nibbles of squeeze cheese but that was literally once every few months. Fun to create those delectible (sp?) little treat bombs every evening. Of course, I had a siberian husky that would go through 4 or 5 a day... he got most of his kibble via kongs as his breed is WAY more active than most dogs!! |

I just got back from taking Shippo for a small walk, with a very brief game of fetch in the grass. I don't want to overdo it again.
I've got a Kong in the freezer, but I'm not sure if he's ready for it yet. It's got a tiny bit of peanut butter, some pumpkin, a bit of cream cheese, one banana slice and a dog cookie. Think he can handle it now? He kept down his breakfast. >^^;< |

Cheetah - so glad to hear that Shippo is being obnoxious again - nothing like a bit of dog-cheek to let you know that they are better.
PS, what is a Kong? Enquiring minds want to know.... I'm sure if I Scroogle it, I'll only get a whole bunch of monkeys.... |

Dog Toy Called the Kong
"Just to get you started, here are things other dog-lovers have put in their Kong dog toys: Bits of dog food Peanut butter... preferably the sugar-free, salt-free kind... just smear a little around the inside of the Kong for a quick treat Apple pieces Some yogurt Banana, which can be mashed to combine with other foods Dried banana chips Chunks of orange, peach, nectarine, etc. Cheese... any kind... regular or nonfat cream cheese is good for smearing on other foods Carrot chunks Bits of meat Bits of fish Celery sticks Raw cauliflower Raw broccoli Cooked egg Commercial dog treats, like freeze-dried liver Unsalted roasted cashews Bits of rice cakes You can freeze Kongs with tasty liquids inside, after closing the bottom hole with something gooey like peanut butter. You could also use water with bits of food in it. Great for dogs in the yard on a hot day." |

KONG Pet Toys - Legendary Strength, Quality, and Performance
here is a link that shows a photo of a kong toy... they are great for keeping dogs busy... you can put treats in them or freeze yogurt, or a little peanutbutter in them and they chew and work to get the good stuff out of the middle... As for giving Shippo the kong, i would probably wait another day to make absolutely sure that his tummy is really ok ... better safe than sorry is what i say... Emilie wow linda, you beat me to a post and really out did me LOL!!! Emilie |

I use the black kong ( which is the super heavy duty strength) becuase Dillon is a heavy duty chewer... they last with him. He started out with the light blue puppy one, but chewed that up in a few months, but the time he was 7 months old he had graduated to the black one... He is not yet two years old and is only on his second one...
and LInda, i was totally kidding, you just were just so thorough! it is awesome information Emilie |

So....rushed out and found not only a kong or two but also the elusive shedding blade thingy - the long bendy one with the wee teeth. She lurves the kong and I lurve the blade. It is the only effective grooming tool that she will tolerate without loads of wittering and whining, other than the Zoom gorrm, which is OK but not much good for dragging out those huge clumps.
So we are both happy puppies.

Glad Shippo is feeling better Shippo.
I hate it when my girl is sick. ![]() I have also been known to stick some raw, fresh green beans in Jackie's kong. Break a couple in half, and they are very good for plugging up the large hole and keeping whatever you put inside . . . inside.
