Can your corgi sit up or beg?
I received a photo of our future puppy's mother and she was sitting up in a beg position. I was pleasantly surprised because of the strength to do that. Our past cardi was unable to sit up - not strong enough. She was slender and had plenty of ground clearance so weight wasn't an issue. I think hip structure was. When I saw the future mom's photo I thought - champion vs our past dog pet quality.
I was wondering if other's cardi or pem can sit up in the beg position? |

My Dillon can, he can also "dance" on his back legs, and hop... he has very well developed muscles in his hips and thighs ( hocks).Gus, sadly, has difficulty even jumping up... before i adopted him he was not exercised much and his muscles deteriorated and so he is left with the worst muscle tone i have seen - The good news is he is putting on muslce with me, slowly, but he went from being unable to climb a flight of stairs ( quitting half way up to lay on the step) to running up two steps at a time. so he is getting stronger.
I think the muscle development depends on how they are bred only to a degree, but moreso how they are exercised, how they are fed. I think that even the best bred dog can lack the muscle needed to sit like that- but i certainly am no expert on the corgi frame or muscle development in the corgi... if i am wrong, i hope I will be corrected... Lulu will "Sit Pretty". She learned it in Puppy Class. I never trained it w/ Tucker although he has seen Lulu get ooooohs and ahhhhs and copied her.

I never have tried to teach Chip or Dale to sit up - I thought it was bad for their backs because of their length. If not, I will try it with the two.

I never tried to teach it either. Like Bonnie, I thought it might not be good for their backs. But if it's ok, then maybe I will work on that . . . as soon as we master STAND!

Annie taught herself to sit up - I think due to our bad habit of eating dinner in front of the TV - because we ignored the pitiful looks and drooling she came up with something cuter. Annie must have taught Joey. Joey has a normal sit up but Annie looks like a penguin. She just kind of hangs her little legs instead of using them for balance - guess her butt is big enough

Dudley sits pretty. He's not great at it and tries to stand up on his hind legs instead of actually sitting, but it's cute none the less. Maya, on the other hand, does it naturally. She has since we brought her home...it is her method of begging
