I think Corgis love to ride in vehicles because they ernestly believe they are going to get to some place that will give them a lot of pleasure and it will take them away from the average, ordinary. Sometimes, though, this doesn't happen and the poor Corgi is kept inside the vehicle. Still, there are some Corgis who like looking out windows and viewing the passing sights. More strength to the ones who obviously enjoy this experience.

*~* I usually take Midnight & Sunshine with me when I pick-up my kids from their schools. I have two separate doggie car seats for them. BUCKLE UP....I always say ! I want my puppies to be safe ! Midnight & Sunshine each get a window seat...until my kids get into my truck. Then, they have to be in the middle. ~~~tongues flapping in the wind~~~ ** YEPPIE-YEPP...my Corgi girls LOVE to, "Go for a RIDE" !!! ** Remember....I have a new part-time job at Cox Learning Center...so I have not ben able to take them in my truck to see the kids at their schools. I feel bad about that...but, I need some "mommy money" so I feel that I will make up for it with some car rides on the weekends. Michael, how do you feel about dog owners who allow their dogs to be in the back of trucks...not even tied down...or protected ? It scares me to death...when I see that !! None of my business...but, I still feel worried for the dogs. *~* Nikki

Hi Nikki
Well I'd be too worried about my boy if he was on the back of an open truck. But if I was riding with him and had hold of him it would be fun for Taylor. Even the most experienced dog could easily fall off a truck as it cornered or braked suddenly or went over a bump or pothole in the road. It's too risky. In of my stories in my book involved a farm dog who fell off a truck and hurt his head. It's irresponsible. I've never had a Corgi who didn't race me to the car as soon as they realise what was in store. And if a car ride didn't eventuate for them, the look on their faces........ Nikki, You will be pleased to know that here in Australia it is illegal to have unrestrained dogs in the back of utes. (Ute is short for Utility Truck which is same as Pickup Truck)
This is a quote from 2004 - Dogs travelling in the rear of utes must be caged or tethered in a manner that prevents them from reaching the sides of the vehicle. Dogs that are used by farmers for droving stock are exempt from this law. This will prevent thousands of dogs from suffering serious injuries and possibly even death. The RSPCA estimates that approximately 5,000 dogs are injured each year as a result of being unrestrained in a ute. |

YEA for Australia! I wish the US would make the same commitment to animals. I hate to see a dog in the back of a truck, it scares me so much. Some states have a law against it, but it is not a nation wide law. Maybe someday it will be.
