AKC Registration??

Hi, I have a 7 1/2 month old tri color Cardigan name Lowgan located in California. Technically not new to the forum, but this is my first post. I've been reading the threads here and want to say thank you for being such a wonderful informative forum for corgis.

My question is that we got Lowgan from a breeder in OK and she is holding his AKC registration papers for proof of neutering. He was neutred around 6 months and I was wondering if registration is necessary or important? I'm not sure how those things work. I am planning to get him registered but wanted to know the back store to this AKC stuff.

PS This picture was when he was around 8 weeks. I have current pictures on my digital camera but Lowgan chewed the data cable one day. I will put more pictures once I get a new cable.

Hi Dinh & Logan:

Others can tell you more but it is not uncommon for breeders to sell puppies w/ a spay/neeuter contract.

Lulu's (Cardi) breeder did the early spay with her before I got her.

Handsome boy! You do need to send the proof of neutering to the breeder at least. Someday in the future you may want to add a second corgi from her and that would go in your favor.

As far as actually registering him; he'll remain under the breeder's name on his litter registration IF you don't register him individually. He's still very young and who knows what you may want to do in the future. To compete in AKC events, he will need to be registered and it will be much cheaper to do it now, than if you decide to do it later. The downside might be all the "spam" you'll receive from AKC.

As an aside, and not directed to you Dinh, but just as an FYI - puppies are not AKC registered unless, 1) both parents are AKC registered, 2) the breeder does a litter registration, and 3) the breeder and/or the new owner of the puppy submits the individual registration form for the puppy. So in the case of the baby puppy picture that was posted, at this time it is not AKC registered.
